Streamvia SmartDNS help

I'm having issues trying to watch UK channels on my Firestick via Streamvia SmartDNS. I can access the App (e.g. channel 4) and the programme will start but after a few minutes it freezes. I've checked my network settings, re-established the DNS connection, rebooted the Firestick, etc, etc. I have had bandwidth problems recently which have now been resolved and I can watch Netflix and Prime ok so pretty sure the DNS is the issue but don't know what to try next. Any ideas please?

If you go onto your account with stream via you can raise a ticket. I have always found them very quick to respond.

Are you aware that StreamVia have changed their smart DNS? I had dreadful problems the day they did it as I didn't know until I went onto their website. If you did know then yes, I agree you will have to raise a ticket.

Thanks MrsGee and no I didn't know they had changed the smart DNS. I've been on the website recently but didn't see anything. I'll check it out.

Ignorant me but what is DNS? Is that VPN? Until a week ago I had no prob getting UK programs down in our garden gazebo approx 17 metres from house but using extenders. Then suddenly buffering on all UK ones. Could this be streamvia problem?

Hi Interested in using this as Nord VPN has now admitted it is having issues with BBC iPlayer (and I suspect all UK TCV, such as ITVX) as you cannot access live channels at the moment. Though I can say no buffering at all with the VPN, and lost 1-2 Mb when testing speed connected to UK VPN.

Can I ask people here using this DNS server, are you setting it up for 1. Israel and 2, Italy - they seem the nearest DNS servers to us; what's the streaming UK Tv like? Any Buffering?

Turkey and Israel.
Legit services like Netflix and Apple TV, no buffering.
IPTV Smarters, rarely any buffering.
If there is an issue with bandwidth, not a frequent issue, it tends to affect all internet provision until resolved.

Using SmartDNSProxy, I set the DNS Servers to London and Dublin. I know they suggest using a geographically 'close' server but as all (well 99% of) the programs I want are UK ones I decided London was close to the source. It works perfectly. As all TRNC internet traffic is via mainland Türkiye, Israel et al would be poor choices anyway.

Thanks Groucho & Sysman, will try Groucho's suggestion and switch to UK DNS's or Ireland and see if that helps. BBC iPlayer was constant buffering on current DNS settings - it made watching The Longest Day on BBC catch-up, even longer than it should have been ((W\))

I follow the advice of SmartDNSProxy…
Use the closest server to your physical location as Primary. Then select the 2nd closest server to your physical location as the Secondary server.
Primary being Turkey
Secondary being Israel.
Nothing “poor” about those choices.
… and it’s generally UK TV channels we connect to.

I wasn't saying your choices were poor it was the suggestion of an Israel and Italy combination by another poster. Türkiye would be a good choice as I pointed out too simply because all KKTC traffic is via Türkiye so why use Israel as a primary?
