ladies beware
last week a friend, a holiday maker, had her purse stolen on the Wednesday market. It was in a zipped shoulder bag which unfortunately she was carrying over her back.

Re: ladies beware
Thanks for the warning, but what a rootten thing to do, and it shows how this place is changing in line with the rest of the evil world beyond.

Re: ladies beware
Not surprised. What does surprise me is that no one saw it. Or did they and said nothing? Must leave a very nasty taste in her mouth. It happened to my husband on a train in Milan - but he left his wallet in his back pocket, soemthing you don't do, but then one does NOT expect it in Cyprus does one.

Re: ladies beware
In the market at Olu Deniz a Turkish man came up to me & told me to watch my bag as there were pickpockets about, I had it slung over my shoulder. Nice to know someone was looking out, but it made me very safety conscious from then on in crowded places.

As a Cypriot advised me some years ago - people are people wherever you go and don't expect Cypriots to be any different!! Unfortunately the scene has changed over the years and anyone with any sense will treat TRNC as elsewhere. I had money stolen from my rented villa some years ago and the police were totally indifferent. But I find the police to be somewhat different in their approach. The detective branch are total thugs!!

Re: ladies beware
I still believe that the crime rate is much lower than quite a few places around the world.
Whilst I feel for the lady in question, to say she won't return, in my opinion is a bit harsh.

Where in the world is there no crime? I feel safer here than I did in the UK but with "progress" comes problems I,m afraid. I think she is a bit naive.
