On a positive note the imported lamb is available I bought 2 .it's 375 TL per kg.

No bone . New Zealand grass fed.

The list is here .meat was delivered yesterday afternoon in Famagusta . The butcher I spoke to was getting 400 kg.

The bits I bought where 2 kg per piece .

Erdener (not on the list) has a chest freezer by the fruit & veg section full of varying sizes of frozen NZ lamb. When TC's find out how good it is stocks will not last too long!

I'm not sure you know ..you know how patriotic they are and believe everything Turkish is best ..

The farmers rose various questions about halal and safety etc ....you know how some of the locals have various beliefs ...off topics but a witch was arrested this week for spell casting

They imported a job lot it's not yet clear if this will be a regular thing ..I hope so .

I don't think consumers will have any worries about meat from New Zealand, it's the farmers who should be very worried.

Trnc is too protectionist of its few Industries. The local meat is now too expensive it's as simple as that and they now need to allow a free market...but I doubt they will.

Perhaps this import is a warning to whoever is milking it ...to get their house in order..it's not yet known if this will continue

I remember in the late 1980's/90's an Imam and his family were given residency in NZ, his job was to bless lamb for export to qualify for Halal certification in the slaughter & freezing factories. This stopped the live export of sheep and many deaths on their voyage mainly to the middle east, now Halal stamped approved.
The right-wing nationalistic Kiwis were very upset, not about the welfare of the sheep but one Muslim family given residency!!?

Well its quite strong tasting and sweet . My wife who is Turkish did not like it at all and said to never buy again ...

It was very very tender . Would skip the rosemary next time as that can make it more sweet.

Agree with the first bit ...the rest of it is going in a strong curry..

The flesh is thick on the bone, being slaughtered in prime young condition helps and it is very definitely less strong in flavour than the local wild grazing lamb which shares its diet with the goats. I love the local 'gamey' lamb but COA does not... this NZ lamb she loved.

I hate the local lamb, don't like the taste or the need to chew it as if I was eating cardboard. Ghastly stuff.

No such thing as local lamb, it's either hogget at best but most likely mutton that is sold retail.

For those that maybe interested; in New Zealand lamb is slaughtered and frozen within a a year of birth and if not sold for export in the year following, storage of the remaining frozen lamb has a birthday whilst frozen and graded hogget, discounted and sold off cheaply!
A total enigma too me, a birthday when dead!
