House water pump
My house water pump has stopped coming on using the switch in the house. If I go to the pump and press 'Reset' it starts without fault. This is obviously a nuisance with regular power cuts.
Does anybody know if this is caused by a failure of some electronic component (capacitor?) Or a more serious issue?
Thanks

Re: House water pump
It is more than likely the pressure control, the one that sits on top of the pump. That is what happened to me, exactly the way you described it. Good luck.

Re: House water pump
More than likely it is because the pressure in the pipes has dropped - a very small leak in the system can cause that - during a power outage. When the power comes back on again the pressure control (the thing mounted on top of the pump) goes into FAIL mode and requires a manual (finger press) restart. Not a failure of the device itself, the pressure control is there to switch the pump on when the system pressure drops and switch the pump off when the system pressure has built up again. There are rare occasions when it fails, gets stuck because of rubbish in the water and lets the pump run on and on when there is no demand for water happening. That is not good as the pump can overheat and burn out - happened to me last week and is not cheap to fix - lol. If your problem is just occurring after power outages then I would not worry too much as most likely cause is a tiny leak somewhere in your water system that you have noticed yet, but it would be worth finding!!
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

It could be lots of reasons. But it should not happen if your pump is below the feed tank. Probably need a new control unit. How old is your one. Mind you it doesn’t always work that way. If it persists give us a call and we can come and look www.braceybuilders.com

gates the pump is below the tank and you're probably correct that I need a new pressure controller as it is 20 years old now, no idea what the life expectancy of these things is.
I used to switch it of at night at back on in the morning but when it started being intermittent I left it on all the time then came the power cuts and going outside to press reset.

Unfortunately ours too has since the power cuts, we assume when it came back on one night it took a belt of incoming feed of electricity. We generally turn everything that's could be sceptical off during power cuts to ensure when it comes back on all is regulated before turning delicate equipment back on.

Re: House water pump
As soon as there is a p.cut the first thing I switch off is the water pump which is just inside front door and wait for two mins or so before putting it back on. Same for everything behind the TV, laptop etc. Also, when I discovered that the large fridge freezer wasn't covered by insurance due to p.cuts, I turn those off as well. It's a bit of a faff, but worth it I think.

I advise you do not buy Chinese or “Italian style”, “Italian quality” with Italian flag colours - cheap Chinese tat.
I would buy Spanish, Italian or at a push, Turkish.
Look closely for the “made in … “ identifier.

Re: House water pump
I thought I had a problem today with pump on and off every few seconds. No obvious toilet leaks, dripping taps. Turned out the dog had chewed the cap off a pipe coming out of the wall and was spraying water everywhere. At least I know what the pipe is for now, and it wasn't a major leak somewhere. If I had a dog house, he'd be in it!

We bought these for tv, pc, fridge etc. They are fantastic as they wont allow dirty power to reach your expensive electrical items, they switch power back on after 5 mins if the feed is clean
