Animal poisoning situation getting out of control

As many of you are sadly aware (or may not be), the poisoning of both stray animals and pets in North Cyprus is getting increasingly worse.
We want to hear any stories you have regarding this topic or just general feedback to discuss with our petition.


The ban on these chemicals needs to be enforced. They shouldn't be easily accessible. Help us put a STOP this evil.

I'm sure if I could go back about 8 or more years in my inbox I would find the identical mail. Even down to the lady stating she would never go to to TRNC on holiday. We were having real problems with some of the goat herds at the time. Also if you wanted to participate neither Cyprus nor TRNC are in the list of countries to click on. Just Turkie

It's been going on for years its so sickening. The more awareness we raise of it the more likely they are to do something as to not tarnish their reputation.

Unfortunately, there are too many animals that have to survive on the streets.
If the human race does not bend
Accept there are street dogs, some cared for
Accept there are free roaming animals - slow down
These animals suffer
It does not solve the problem with shelters etc, the people in charge of the island have to regulate the importing of animals, the breeding of animals and registering and checking up on the ones who have not neutered them. Until the breeding is regulated, the unwanted will still end up at the mercy of the kind hearted people who go out daily and those who financially support them if they are lucky.
Poison is cheap, deals with the problem in some people's eyes, I ask those to actually watch how the animal dies, you may think again before laying Poison.

I live in a street of 9 houses when I bought I inherited 12 cars I had them all spewed plus any more that arrived gradually they came down to 7 pets all were clipped ears to show neutered. Three weeks ago one dog and three cats were poisoned plus 11 street dogs on a nearby building site were also poisoned all neutered. They were all descended from or dumped hunting dogs , not sure who brings hunting gigs here ? Won't they hunt if neutered or is it macho to tow dogs in a little trailer behind these big 4x4 pickups as I'm sure the dogs love a trip to the beach. Strangely the beledye were on hand at 07.30 to collect the carcasses so they must have been prompt.

If dogs don’t stray around the street all night barking and waking everyone up this would stop. I don’t believe in hurting animals but I can understand if you are constantly woken up and deprived of sleep this will continue. As for many it’s the only way out. I am not involved as I wouldn’t have a clue on what to use but I can totally understand. Why if you have a dog not keep it indoors so that people that want to get a good nights sleep or have a sick person get the piece they deserve e

The new law in turkey has passed I'm sure most are a aware cull all wild dogs if not adopted after 30 days or something like that . Often trnc follows turkish law. Perhaps people leaving this poison have seen the new law in Turkey as a green light . I knew a Turkish guy whose dog started biting so he just took it down the local beach and left it. I'm not a dog lover myself and it makes me fearful when my daughter goes walking down the beach that these wild dogs (There are many) are often dangerous and something needs to be done .

The opposition in turkey are protesting about the new law in turkey but there was enough support to carry It through . Which suggest the majority are not dog lovers and have come up with a pragmatic solution to solve the problem . It's clearly one of them that whilst many will
Openly condemn this behaviour there are clearly many who will vote to put it through and support it. That's why erdogan has done it it's overall a vote winner & something people have been complaining about in turkey for years to get rid of all the wild dogs. At least this solution would end the poisoning & then get to a position where wild dogs would be be more likely to be adopted as there are fewer numbers.

If you own a dog love it as part of your family don’t shut it out side and hope it still there tomorrow. A dog is not for Christmas so love your dog and everyone else will. Give it half your day then it’s someone else’s problem

Suspect you are talking to the wrong audience on this forum Gates. Imagine that all of us on here with dogs, do actually treat them as part of the family and are considerate to others. My old dog, bless her, didn't bark, so I could easily and sometimes did, leave her outside in the summer. This new sprightly and very energetic boy, most definitely not, he does have a pair of lungs on him when goats and strangers walk by. I don't want my sleep disturbed, and certainly not my neighbours.

Here's the guardians report in turkey . Before I'd read that if the dog wasn't adopted after 30 days it would be euthanised so I'm not sure if that proposal was put into law. There are clearly people on both sides of the fence .

I think it’s a good idea and will make people take care of their pets. Also we get some sleep

It won't stop the hunting dogs being bred and then dumped. There are people breeding dogs here illegally for profitccording to eye witnesses
