Hi there,

I have a holiday Villa on the outskirts of Karşıyaka and I need someone to be able to change locks on our property.

Does anyone have any experience / recommend someone

Cheers

Stef

My neighbour had a bad fall, broke his hip and was taken to Lefkosa state hospital. Unfortunately, his keys were locked inside the house in Esentepe. I contacted this company in Lefkosa, a worker met me at the hospital and together we visited the patient to get permission and then he came out to Esentepe to do the work. It wasn't as straightforward and he had to use some parts from the old lock to make it all work so we were very impressed. WhatsApp details attached.

The locks mainly used here are called Euro locks. The lock is held in with a single screw that is accessible from the door edge. First you would need to remove the door handle and the square bar that goes through the lock and joins both handles.

I was taught by a workman how to break into my own house when locked out, as per thornaby. Its fatal not to have the sort of doors that shut you out though,

I was locked out. Left the house with the key in the lock on the inside. Tried using a spare key from the outside but because of the key still in the lock could not turn it. The door was shut only on the latch mechanism of the lock and not fully locked. As with this type of lock the key as well as unlocking it pulls back the latch. Removed the little plate where the key enters (escutcheon plate). At this point the lock sticks out a bit from the door. With tools I could grab hold of the lock at this point and working it back and Forth the lock snaps in half where the securing screw is. Now had access to inside of the lock and the lever that opens the door. A bit fiddly but got in. The weakness of these locks have been addressed by the manufacturers (some) by cutting fracture line along the barrel so it breaks there and not at the screw. As said by other post a good demonstration is on YouTube.

Thanks all, I mainly reside in the UK and I am not over for another couple of months, It was more from a maintenance perspective as its rented out. So I needed a maintenance person whilst I am not out there, I am in the building industry so I understand the ease it would be to change that myself. :)
