Re: Inflation
It's all going up up up. There's no price control. One supermarket potatoes are 99tl a kilo another 5 minutes down the rd 57tl. That's just one example. Eating out seems to vary, some places want 700tl for a burger others 380, its all a game of chance.

Re: Inflation
Its not just the cost of eating out, but its the really tiny portions some establishments are dealing out. Over the weekend one of our party (a small eater) chose the fish platter. This is what arrived on a LARGE oblong plate. ONE prawn, one teaspoon of coleslaw, one teaspoon of hummus. one teaspoon of mashed bream/bass, 6 tiny slithers of anchovy, one teaspoon of Russian salad, half a tomato, two small leaves of lettuce and a couple of teaspoons something else I didn't recognize. These genuinely were heaped teaspoons artfully spread out from corner to corner It was absolutely pathetic and we sent it back as it hadn't been touched. I have to admit, by now we had four waiters standing around looking shocked at us and all wanting to give their opinion. To finish, we were extremely quiet and polite, not wanting to draw attention.

Another establishment on its way out as you won't go again and you tell others who won't!!

Frugal, just so people don't think I was exaggerating re portion control, the PRAWN was slighty bigger than a shrimp. NOT one of the huge ones served in their shell with garlic butter etc. I dread to think how many prawns there would be in a prawn cocktail.

Surely we can name and shame as it is ok to praise establishments.

Re: Inflation
yes, greedflation and shrinkflation adds to inflation. it does not apply for restaurants alone, often packages are smaller, but sold for the same price, eg, chocolate instead of 100 gr are now 80 gr only.benjaminbutton wrote: ↑Tue 27 Aug 2024 9:03 amIts not just the cost of eating out, but its the really tiny portions some establishments are dealing out. I went the all you can eat lunch buffet Indian restaurant in karakum I forget the name . It's now 450 tl c £10 but it's pretty good value and imo it's better quality than some other a la carte Indian and very clean. I literally had a bit of everything that was on offer and after though it was well worth £10. A coke I think was 65 tl which I'm sure would have been double in the UK . I only go.there on my own as my daughter and wife don't eat Indian so it's an affordable outing and fixed price has it's benefits .
If I compare it to the likes of ezic it's better value imo. I'm planning to go there more regular as it's one that deserves the custom.

this sounds definitely better as a smaller and smaller chicken döner incl one ayran for 230TL, which is around 6,20 euro.Reyntj wrote: ↑Fri 30 Aug 2024 1:07 pmI went the all you can eat lunch buffet Indian restaurant in karakum I forget the name . Tatar has spoken and has said there can be no minimum wage of $1000. There may not be a cost of living rise that's tabled from 1 September. I can't believe turkey who are funding trnc will support an increase when salary in turkey is frozen until 2025. Have to wait and see but I can't see how the economy and finances can support it.

A few things in the UK press about tourists staying away from Turkey because things are too expensive. Guessing it's the same here, people seek value!

Even the Turkish are not staying in their own Country they are holidaying in Greece because it’s cheaper.
