Notifying the tax office of end of rental contract
Does anyone know what the procedure is? We need to tell the tax office that we are no longer renting out our property so we can stop paying rental tax. Is it best to inform them before the tenants leave?

I believe that you adhere to the length of the contract for tax purposes.

It stops when the contract finishes.

My customers have only done holiday lets but when I have closed the file , I have just got a typed signed letter stating they have decided to stop renting and submitted it to their file. A few have sold and there has been no problems.

The tax office will give you a form to fill out. Can’t remember exactly what was on it but it asked the reason for stopping (selling, contract finished etc) and at the end there is a section that you sign promising to tell the tax office if you rent out the property again. You take the original rental agreement to show them and proof of ownership

Good to hear there is now a proper form, maybe there always has but it was never offered.
