Soda water anyone?

Post by Mowgli597 »

Got back a couple of days ago and looking to make our favourite refreshing drink in these warm climes - soda and lime made with Rose’s/Britvic lime cordial and soda water.

We’ve tried our usual east-side shopping haunts (Supreme, Şah, Erdener) but can’t find the soda water anywhere (lime cordial, no problem).

Fruko used to be the soda of choice but it doesn’t seem to be in these shops anymore (nor is the Fruko tonic as far as we can see).

Can anyone help two thirsty souls?

Fruko soda (and prob tonic) hasn't been available for quite some time, local shopkeeper said they no longer make it. Cannot find any larger sized bottles of soda at all, and I'm not even sure about smaller bottles, as I give up the will to live when faced with an array in a supermarket and try to translate. Have been going for multipacks of small bottles of sparkling water instead, which is not the same, but it's better than nowt.

No problem. Hopefully someone will tell us if there is actual soda water and the make. Apparently there are plenty fruity sodas, but that's no good.
Just for info, sparkling water I've been buying is Pinar make and also Uludag if that helps you, comes in 6 pack. There may well be others, but again, life is too short to be examining every bottle in the supermarket.

Fruko are no longer trading in the TRNC thus their soda and tonic products no longer available. I stand to be corrected if others can say otherwise.

You've beaten me to it. I nearly picked it up thinking it was Tonic. So as Sukicat said, its got to be around. Tried Sha?

Yes, we did try Şah BB, but maybe not for Schweppes soda.
Thanks for the heads up Sukicat. I guess that means a trip to the far side (west of Girne!).
Better check the passports (8)) (0-0)

Yay, got some on Wednesday in Supreme, think it was 27.90TL. Don't care am chuffed to bits.

Now am on the quest for Mollys, not been able to get it for months. It's an alternative to Baileys and I much prefer it, plus it's cheaper. I've tried some of the others in the past but not enamoured. Keeping all crossed that it arrives before Christmas, so if anyone sees it east side of Girne, please let me know. I don't mind being a tee-totaller, but a wee drop of the hard stuff over the festive period wouldn't go amiss.

Have you tried Wines of the world? They used to stock it at a lower price than the supermarkets. Worth a try. Not in Supreme or Erdener today.

Thanks for looking CoA. Wines of the World are no longer stocking it am afraid, I was told that on Wednesday, and that's where I used to stock up as it was cheaper. A shop local to me in Tatlisu did sell it, but haven't had it for a couple of months at least. Hopefully it will come back soon, or I will be a full time teetotaller.

Our shop in the old town Famagusta has managed to get some for us - 30tl a litre. I don't know if he can get some more. I will check

I got 4 bottles of Fruko soda on Wednesday, didn't quite empty the shelves in Supreme. Am hoping that now that it's back in several places, it is here to stay. There is obviously quite a demand for it.

Ah ha, thanks so much CoA, excellent, you are a star, will get myself along there. It's fair jumped in price, but no surprise there, although couldn't tell you what it was, just not that much. Won't be a dry household this Christmas after all.

Only went in to see if they had any mini marshmallows, I'm on the hunt for them just plain ones. As I was leaving I spotted the bottles of Molly's just in front of the entrance. They probably have them everywhere now, when they're in, they're in.

If I spot mini marshmallows will let you know. Yep you are probably right, the Molly's ship must have arrived. Might get some in Azzder which is closer, but good knowing the price in Ugemar.
