"The Turkish forces landed in Cyprus on 20 July and captured 3% of the island before a ceasefire was declared...."

Don't think the percentage is right. If only 3% was captured the Greek Cypriots would not have considered a ceasefire.

The Turkish forces landed in Cyprus on 20 July and captured 3% of the island before a ceasefire was declared.

Part 2 The Greek military junta collapsed and was replaced by a civilian government. Following the breakdown of peace talks, Turkish forces enlarged their original beachhead in August 1974 resulting in the capture of approximately 36% of the island.

Who broke the ceasefire that allowed the Turkish forces to proceed further than the original beachead?
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.
