Turkcell internet, ozankoy area
Have had little to no Internet for days. Turcell blame on going electric supply issues in the girne area. Seems hard to believe this is the issue or can't be solved with a back up generator. Is anyone else having the same problem?

My turkcell is pretty useless in edremit. Forever going off and terrible buffering after 4 pm even though test speeds are over 30mbps.

If your getting 30mbps then the problem will be somewhere down the line like the streaming server at source being unable to cope with demand... e.g. if the whole world and his dog is trying to stream BBC iPlayer content.susiesusie wrote: ↑Sun 17 Nov 2024 12:53 pmMy turkcell is pretty useless in edremit. My Veezynet is much the same - up and down like the proverbial drawers - lol. Can't even get a response from their support either, in fact the last time I got anything from them was Friday the 8th of Nov, since then it's like talking to a black hole!! Speeds are good when they are good but way below 10mb when everyone else is on and watching.
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

We've not had any service from Turkcell since yesterday! Phone customer service and say sorry no English colleague will call you back? No English but can answer you in English

My Turkcell internet in Lapta had been hopeless all weekend and unsatisfactory generally for a long time. Saturday evening screenshot showed 10mbps, Sunday 2mbps. The 'service' continually disconnects and watching tv or using laptop impossible. They don't seem able to have an answer for it so I've had enough and will look for another supplier

Yup, having the same problem in our area of Alsancak. I know some problem over the last 5 weeks were because the road builders have four times dug up the cables of two ISP's on the area of road approaching Lapta from Girne. i.e. Haypem area. I have real problems when people are trying to contact me who do not have WhatsApp. I finally receive messages asking why haven't I've replied. Blame it on the thousands of people moving here. Reception cannot cope any longer. The cake can only be sliced a finite a number of times and it seems we are going to have to live with the crumbs in future.

Looking for another provider, not happy with multimax in the past, Turkcell was a big improvement but this lack of supply has gone on to long. Considering Extend, what's others experience with them please

Probably depending where you are but, we have the best service from Gwyn and Paul Aldred, Extend. On the very odd occasion we have an issue they resolve it straight away. Fantastic customer service, and no buffering nor downtime unless a power cut of course. Cannot recommend them highly enough, unfortunately a lot of people go for cheap and then complain when they don't get good service, at the end of the day, you get what you pay for. You pays your money, you takes your choice.

Re: Turkcell internet, ozankoy area
Believe me Haypem are not cheap at all, plus they add some sort of separate Government Tax on top that no one else seem to pay, although they assure me they do. I can;t complain about customer service though (can and have done so, phoned at 11 at nigh ) t and they quickly send out an Email to warn of any outages and reason why.

Re: Turkcell internet, ozankoy area
Turkcell sent an engineer to me yesterday and he concluded everything was ok
I told him during the day it was ok but in the evening it was terrible. He tried to blame me or my set up but when I showed him this thread on the forum he sent the lad up to the receiver and told me he had 'changed some settings'. I was dubious but come the evening I watched buffer free telly until I went to bed, long may it continue.
In the past I've used Mad Max and Ubend but they were both awful.
Lapta, sea side

We have Extend, very happy with them and always very helpful in the office. They even turned up to fix an issue when we weren't expecting them to! We assumed they were waiting for us to report if the problem continued. Also direct dealing not with agent.

Re: Turkcell internet
Totally agree with post 6,7,8, + + + l. We were with extend for years and then 3 years ago it went downhill. Engineers did not come quickly for problems. 3 days was the norm they said, We changed to Turkcell which are useless in comparison. . Phone answers 'Press 9 for English'. then message continues in Turkish. For an internet company that is not good enough! The service has been really bad this past few weeks. I took my laptop to Mr Chip thinking it was my laptop's fault, 'no' he said it is your supplier and sure enough when a technician finally visited, it was Turkcell's problem. Today the service has been slow with lots of short periods of no service. I am in Alsancak

Re: Turkcell internet, ozankoy area
Having read all of this thread I have come to the conclusion there is no point in asking each of us our experiences with Turkcell because they appear to be exactly the same wherever we live. Like TB10pilot I live in Alsancak. However my reception is getting worse in proportion of the number of properties being built (and sometimes sold) These properties are gradually blocking the nearest large hotel on which we bounce off, together with large trees which were small to medium when we first bought.

Re: Turkcell internet, ozankoy area
Agree with all, see my thread sometime ago about TURKCELL home internet, even though I was direct line of sight 30 mtrs away from huge mast. They are by far the worst internet provider by miles. What I cannot understand is the amount of people still signing on with them - they have an installation agent 2 doors away and the number dishes they load into 7 or 8 vans every AM seems to support this. They sell a service cheaper than all others, but they do not have the infrastructure or capacity to support the numbers being added daily, simple. They are always first to blame the customer's set-up, always try to install using the previous ISP's cables (they never check them for wear & tear), so inevitable issues will arise.
We did change to extend using the peer to peer dish system, more expensive but on the whole works. However, our base station on a nearby hotel seems to keep getting switched off and on by the hotel, one week it was daily. How they are allowed to do that by extend boggles the mind. Had some issues reporting problems, and having been off a Fri- to Monday, was told 'think yourself lucky not with Turkcell, etc etc,' not a helpful or welcome response by the agent.
In general the internet here is almost double that in the south, where fibre to the door has become the norm; double the speeds at half the price. The Government has made noises about an upgrade here; why oh why when they put in the new traffic security monitoring system on all roads throughout the north didn't put in an extra pipe for fibre optic cabling? Mots of the infrastructure work would have been done and dusted!

They did run fibre optic cable with the new water pipes all over the north some years ago.
Sadly it seems to be only used for monitoring the water system.

you dont need any number, on your web browser type in www.speedtest.net , when it opens you will see a circle saying go, just press that, it comes back with the download and upload speeds you are getting.

Nothing to do with speed, it's the lack of bandwidth the providers are able to offer. The more customers less the continuity of supply.

Re: Turkcell internet, ozankoy area
I know speed test isn't always the answer, but I check mine a couple of times a day particularly when ISP says its one thing, and Im standing there with the Speed test on my phone and I can prove them wrong!! Can't agree re Nethouse, their supposedly 24 hour English speaking Technical Support was laughable. Ring after 8 and all I got was a rude woman and her accent was so strong it was impossible to understand her Eventually I realised she was Russian and telling me to ring "Tomorrow". So much for 24 technical support.
I agree re taking over previous ISP wiring. After a short period last year I complained so much that two blokes came and supplied new wire from disk to TV. They showed me the what they had removed and it was down to bare wire on at least 4 places. Obviously I received a little talk regarding our property position in that where we are, we get full gales, , rain, hail and SUN with no protection and should expect to have to change it.
Re large hotels hogging large pieces of pie. Their customers are paying for 5 star services and they certainly wouldn't be prepared to have bad reception. I'm sure it isn't beyond the Hotels capabilities to close other people down.
Re van loads of Turkcell dishes. To the best of my knowledge all the locals around me only watch Turkish TV and TRNC politcal broadcasts, and they don't do You Tube, I player etc so presumably basic Turkcell is perfect for them. I'm not technical but it makes sense to me.

Alsancak today almost no internet. I tried to call Turkcell customer care. Got through to a lady after 20 mins having pressed all the right buttons for English etc. She said No 'English, I speak no English'. What a waste of time!!!!! This is a disgrace!

Sorry to burst your bubble TB10pilot, in our area of Alsancak we have had continuous service since 8.18am (now 4.45pm) I really shouldn't speak too soon, some clot in a JCB could easily dig our our ISPs wires up again and we have nothing this evening.

Well, surprise, surprise. Turkcell just called me. they are very sorry to lack of service but they had experienced electric shortages in our area this week. This problem has now been rectified and my service should be fine tonight.

Re: Turkcell internet, ozankoy area
Turkcell have called me twice this week once to ask if all was ok after a visit from the technician and yesterday to tell me that in their opinion my connection is ok. I must tell them every time I message to complain, which is almost daily that the connection is good during daytime but after seven o'clock often unusable. Last night 6.5 Mbps using Ookla which is a joke
