Our power just went off, its just us, the street lights are still on. We have checked all the trip switches, the main box outside, all looks good, we have the genny on but unless anyone can suggest something please it will have to stay on until we go to bed? Any suggestions welcome, thanks.

We have that problem sometimes Mollie and NOONE seems to be able to find an answer. We also have a jenny that comes on on the count of 5 after electricity goes off so if we have a 5 hour individual power cut at night then the jenny roars away for five hours. As next door stays on, is the reason I'm getting someone to check our joint meters. I have also been informed that if you have an operational jenny, then Electricity bill will go up. In my ignorance I thought the jenny produced the power, but the mains system knows you have a jenny working. That came as a real surprise to me.

Does the electric come back on by itself or do you after manually switch it over?

So even more bazaar. we got fed up of having the genny on so went to bet early. At about three o clock I woke up and lo and behold the landing light was on?? All very odd, anyway we have an electrician checking everything as I write this.

If its like our system, then when the power comes back on after a power cut and we have had the genny running then yes, we have to manually switch it over to the grid.

kerry6138 When mains come back on, then the jenny stops (or at least it should according to the makers) but there have been times when the jenny has been chugging away and we think the mains is still OFF WHEN IN FACT ITS BACK ON. We used to have to do it manually, but as newer jenny is at end of garden and it could be pouring with rain, we paid an extra 450GBP to have it connected to the house by way of cables,. hence the count of five from mains going off and jenny firing up. Hope this makes sense.

If your generator has an 'automatic switchover' system fitted, then when the power comes back on, then the system should switch you back onto mains power, BUT the generator should carry on running for a few minutes without supplying power to the house, so that it can cool down.

After the 'cooling down' period has elapsed, it should stop running.

If it keeps running indefinitely, then get hold of the installers - there may be a 'stuck' relay or something.

Any light which can be switched on and off by using a remote control, such as a ceiling fan/light combination (although other remote controlled lights or ones with a movement sensor react in the same way) will default to the 'ON' state if power is removed and then restored.

Thought it may have been a trigger happy automatic switch over, that is triggering on a small voltage drop from kibtek side.
