THE 2013 ESENTEPE FUN RUN

PRESS RELEASE # 2 DATED January 31ST 2013

The Esentepe Fun Run committee would like to provide you with a further update on our progress and plans for this year’s event on the 20th April.

We are hoping that, with the essential support of both the English and Turkish media, this will be the most successful event ever. 100% of the money raised by the “Fun Run” and associated “Fun Day” due to take place on the 27th April, will go to the Kanser Hastalarina Yardim Dernegi (Tulips) charity. The exceptional generosity of all our major sponsor’s and donor’s allows us to remit all the money’s raised at the gross level to the Association.

This year, the “Fun Run” day will be divided into three races:

 2K –(for young children and those wishing to do a short course)
 5K
 10K

The Association held its AGM last Saturday the 26th January at the Near East University in Lefkosa. During the course of her address to the members of the Association, Founder and President, Raziye Kocaismail highlighted the fact that the previous two Fun Runs in 2011 and 2012 were by far the greatest contributors for any single day’s event in the history of the Association.

With the ever increasing pressures on the Association’s continuing ability to support cancer patients of all nationalities within the TRNC, it is absolutely vital that we, the Esentepe Fun Run Committee, continue to try and break our own records in our fund raising efforts to support this wonderful organisation.

We are also still looking for good quality items for our auction to be held on the evening of our Fun Day. Last years auction generated significant additional revenues and we hope to do the same again this year.

THE FUN RUN ROUTE AND START TIMES


This year we have identified what, we believe to be an ideal route for the 2K, 5K and 10K races. All three routes are based on the “old shore” road between Carrington’s main office which is co-located with the “Magic bar” and the main junction to Esentepe. The 2K and 5K run will be based completely on this road and the 10K run the same but with only 40 metres of main road as part of its route. The main road element of that run will be well policed and separated from passing traffic.

The start times are as follows;

2K - 10.00 hrs (Registration commences at 08.30)
10k - 11.00 hrs (Registration commences at 09.00)
5k - 12.00 hrs (Registration commences at 09.30)

THE RUNNERS

As previously mentioned in our last press release, we are planning to have a major publicity drive to encourage as many children and older students as possible to participate in the events. To this end we will be contacting schools, colleges and universities with the help and support of the Educational Establishment. In parallel, our publicity campaigns will of course be trying to significantly increase the numbers of adults of all ages participating as in previous years.
