Re: Replacing wooden garden fence
How long is the fence?
Have you thought about going with plastic/aluminium coated, it is very good and lots of people, me included have had wooden fences replaced using this. The big problem with wood over here is termites and the annual treatment upkeep.

More information on plastic/aluminium fence would be very welcome. Can't find any place that sells it in the North via Google. Thanks.

Hi All
It is very much used here in the North. You see it mostly on top of walls, like mine is, however it can go where you like.
I got mine, and also an excellent service, from the aluminium place Dogpen Ltd tel 8223242. There are 2 shops side by side I used the one on the left have done for many years and always a good service.
Re price. Yes it is a little expensive by does last forever, no maintenances and no problem with termites. Just go see them and tell them what you want. Good

Re: Replacing wooden garden fence
Thanks for all the info, I’ll have a good look around and see what is on offer I think! I have stone walls around three sides with wood on top - did the wood myself and was advised to use shuttering boards as they were cheap (then) and would last longer if I stained them, that was five years ago and they remain as good as new! They don’t need it but I think I will stain them again next year. I have one more hedge to cut out and replace it with another stone wall but as it is the front wall facing the road I will need to put a board top on it or my dog will be long gone - lol.

Waddo, I've gone for the grassy stuff a couple of years ago. It wasn't cheap either, and I can't remember now how much it cost me, but it's got a long shelf life too, and no maintenance, which was the main thing for me.

Grassy stuff for me. Put up two years ago and looks like new. As I drive around I can see that more and more people are using it now. There is a place on Karaoglanoglu main road that specialises in it, - different heights. No maintenance

Yeah! My dog weighs 42Kg and I can just see the grassy stuff holding him back inside - lol.

Re: Replacing wooden garden fence
It's not just the grassy stuff. That's attached to metal fencing, take it it's some kind of green plastic type of coating, which is cemented in. I've got the higher fence round the back, which is just as well really for my very energetic and fairly large Cyprus terrier type. He can jump over the shorter stuff in the front garden from sitting position, but he can't get round to that any more....I have recently remedied that situation, purely out of necessity. This dog is costing me a flipping fortune!
To be fair, the back and side fencing went up before I took him on. I'm a total sucker for dogs with broken legs, he is the second one. Besom lulled me into a false sense of security for months, only been jumping over the front in the past few weeks.

Re: Replacing wooden garden fence
Wouldn't worry about any replacements of anything as storm 'Darragh' is obliterating everything as it moves eastwards across the Med. A lovely even playing field for everyone and everything!!

Hopefully it will lose its oomph before Cyprus, the last storm 2 weeks ago was pretty bad and caused plenty damage.

Re: Replacing wooden garden fence
Its not just the grassy stuff, as alphamike says it has to have a base to (climb over/attached to) as it were,. Horses for courses. If you need a high concrete wall with razor wire along the top, I'm sure there is someone here who can supply it!!

Re: Replacing wooden garden fence
If I had wanted a high concrete wall with razor wire along the top - I would have stayed in my last job and had it for free, before you go mad it was not a prison either!! Where you get your ideas from is quite beyond me, I just hope that the sun keeps your grassy stuff nice and green down the years.
