Choose your spouse, friend, relative, in difficult days. On a good day, no one shows their purity.

Absolutely horrendous. We see serious RTA's every week on the roads here, and no one seems to learn from the carnage and heartbreak. My heart goes out to the families of the deceased and the injured.

I’ve just read that the bus was carrying disabled passengers, some are seriously injured.

Hire car involved…. are the unfamiliar with driving on that side of the road?? Was a driver taken unwell ??
Very sad and condolences to all

The original question when will drivers learn
They won’t until a proper driving test is in place, which includes complete awareness on the road curtesy to other road users.
Then the nitty gritty
More stops by police
Get off your damn phone if caught police dispose it at the road side impose huge fine
Don’t drink and drive lock them up straight away impound vehicle, massive fine and long ban
Speeding take vehicle and regulate speed to 40kph

Just a thought

They will only learn when educated and punished severely for wrong doing, formally working for the Metropolitan Police, I was in a unit first on scene to a fatal RTC , It changed my driving habits from that day forward , I passed my normal and Advanced test in '81 and have never had a collision ( even after 19 years in the TRNC).

Unfortunately being a small place, the human being must think they are invincible, I can not believe how many take risks to their and others lives. I personally rather arrive late than not at all. We all must know someone who has had or taken their own life on the roads.
I have still not got the answer why do some people think it's safe to text, read their phone while driving. Obviously not kibkommers :) but I have asked on Facebook too

Probably because the phone cord won't reach all the way from the house? Just imagine what the roads would look like here if mobile phones had not been invented - there would be phone cables all over the place - lol. Go on, let your imagination run wild!!

Best deterrent for bad drivers is the car crusher - let them keep the block of crushed car outside the house as a subtle reminder to not do it again!!

ttoli, passed mine (both) in 75 and never had so much as a scrape till I lived here, now after 18 years here, I have had 3 rear end shunts that could not be avoided and two of them I was parked as well! Defensive driving keeps you alive but it gets harder every day to defend against the number of idiots on the roads these days. Try to teach by example is the only answer we have now as it's all about money in the end so nothing will really turn it back to safe road conditions. Why do people speed? Where are the speed restriction signs and more importantly, where are the derestriction signs???
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

Stop police being racist and related to more than 50% of the drivers. If there is a foreigner and a local involved it will NEVER be fault of local, even if there is a camera.

That is quite a sweeping statement to make. Do you have any evidence to substantiate that claim?

Yes I could but would involve mentioning names and I'm a foreigner as you know. Time has gone and no point in raking it up again.

Even the fire engine overturned probably down to road conditions, the mountain road and the alagadi bit ruined by I assume overloaded lorries or weak tarmac

I was accused of reversing into a moped when we were last there. The moped had a ROUND dent about 10cm diameter on the side. The rider said I reversed into it and it fell onto the kurb. Even after explaining to the Polis that the kurb would have produced a LONG dent not a round one and that I suspected the damage was previous and the driver was just taking advantage of a reversing hire car, the Polis still chose to take the side of the local.

Slightly off topic

Went to town today, walked up by Wednesday Market, take you life in your hands cars parked on pavements at a jaunty angle half in the road by Garanti Bank then Mr £ another life and death manoeuvre to avoid vehicle coming behind you.
All this parking on the pavement you need to move with stealth precision to get round, how do wheelchair users and people with push chairs manage … Correct me if I’m wrong I thought road for cars, pavements for walking ??? or are we changing the rules.
Really is time fines issued or better still a low loader and away the cars go…that will stop them…..maybe

We were in montenegro last year, beautiful place, and during the week we were there saw four cars that had been parked illegally hoisted onto low loaders and taken away. One guy actually came running from shops begging them not to take his car.. tough .... only way to deal with the problem. No messing there.
