MOT (Vehicle Inspection) Stations to be upgraded
I just saw on the Heartbeat webpage that the MOT (Vehicle Inspection) Stations are to be upgraded because "They are clearly inadequate"!

Now that is very good news. Hoping the inspections are more rigid than they are now.

Like the guy who said to me last October, from a distance of 15 metres "and you need 4 new tyres" before I got a new MOT cert.
Must have had superman vision or more probably a family run tyre fitting gararge.

The guy with the lamp on the end of his stick is getting a new battery, mud flaps will be a requirement for all vehicles - regardless of who your cousin is, new tyres will be required until the the tyre shops have sold out and all tinted windows on the front/sides must be down on inspection. The price will of course be raised in line with any new requirements if it means the tester has to get up from his chair to view the vehicle.
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

I still think it depends on whether a relative is on duty the day you go. TRNC has always and I believe always WILL,BE . A WHO YOU KNOW COUNTRY.

It's so scary here the vehicles which are passed, and as Rigsby stated with dangerous tires. It's no wonder there are blowouts during summer months, that's when I have noticed many, but they could occur at any time. I had one hundreds of years ago in MIL's car. It was blooming scary, all over the place, and ended up inches from a very deep embankment and facing direction from which we came. Luckily nothing else on a very quiet road in north Scotland, we were extremely lucky. Teach me not to check tyres in a borrowed car. Anyway, bottom line here, with very busy roads, it's very frightening. MOT checks need to be much stricter for the safety of us all.

It would be very useful if a printed list of all items that require testing was made available! Right now we seem to have a requirement for all vehicles to be fitted with mud flaps, this totally regardless of the fact that the design of modern vehicles includes water dispersion bodywork that nullifies any need for mud flaps! The amount of bodywork/suspension and after market wheels/tyres that are now on the roads is crazy, where many outsize wheels/tyres have been fitted that protrude far beyond the vehicle bodywork and pose a danger to other road users and pedestrians as well. No mud flap fitting is possible on such vehicles - including quad bikes - so how do they pass current MoT? When was the last time you saw a tractor with mud flaps?
