I have an extreme view for some time that this is there plan. Just my opinion.

It solves there schengen problem.
They can see theres going to be no federation and really they just want all their land back.
No solution they want the tc to live in poverty.
Whats the benefit to them keeping the gates open.

Continued hostility will escalate until the greeks close the gates and they will say its not their fault and roll out a host of reasons... terrorism money laundering security arrests. The propaganda machine is already in full swing.

Unlikely to happen IMHO. These are two right wing elements of the political sphere in the south. The south would face all sorts of issues from the EU, given freedom of movement is enshrined in the articles of the EU for those EU residents here and Cypriots. Yes they can make crossing more difficult- almost a certainty when, AND IF, the south is admitted to the Schengen zone - look forward to more stringent checks, your biometric data (fingerprints and photo) being taken and checked when you cross, et cetera. There was an article in the Cyprus Mail that said the EU will take and retain for 3 years all biometric data of 3rd country nationals entering and leaving the Schengen Area from 2026.

There are of course those in the north that wouldn't be unhappy with the closure of the crossing points either - individuals and organisations on both sides of the Green Line have benefitted materially and financially from the division. The last thing they want is a settlement when they may be called upon to compensate, or return 'assets' 'acquired' (:Z) .
