Turkish Water Shortage

According to Cyprus Mail today the North will be cut off from Turkish water for 4 days from Tuesday to Friday due to a malfunction at the pumping station in Girne district of Panagra.

As no one has mentioned it on here, maybe someone can see if it's correct, I'm just posting as information for you due to Turkey supplying the bulk of water, but will you manage with just local supplies.

It is true, but my understanding is the reservoir at Gecitkoy will continue to receive water from Turkey, it just will not be distributed

So not as bad as it sounds, as they didn't seem to give much notice.

Yes that's a problem but how else can they communicate information like urgent repairs are needed such as in this instance? They aren't going to go around knocking on doors in this technological age that is what the internet is for surely.

If we are not tapped into the local grapevine we are going to miss this type of info, that's an issue for each of us, in our splendid isolation, to address, not the government. They publish in the only organs suitable and hope that we, read or listen to the important stuff... the price of beer and food in supermarkets over restaurants seems to be more important to many...

Anyway, it's off, use what you've got wisely and hopefully it will be back for the weekend,,

Off 9th to 12th, water won't be distributed at all. They say 12th so I'll assume 13th! Ours went off yesterday afternoon so I'll assume that's it.

SMS would work, Turkcell and Kibtek use it all the time! The Govt use it for warnings of great danger as well. Internet is not the cure all but used properly it can really help. Why the Govt depts don’t use it is beyond me. How simple is it to send a message to every TRNC registered mobile phone? I.E. - WARNING - Large fire in …….. be careful!

Which would only work if you have a TRNC registered phone.

I just keep up, or try to, with news in local papers online. Water shortage was reported last week. It's due to a few faults, most of which have been repaired bar 1 bigger one, due to the recent power outage which affected the whole of the north of island.

Kanonier, I take your point, but I would suggest that 98% of people living here have a TRNC registered phone, even if it isn't an all singing all dancing version.

Most drivers seem to have one anyway! As for keeping up with the news in the local papers - that only works if the paper publishes that bit of news! Again, if it’s an announcement from the Govt then it should be identical in all the papers but that is very rare.

Maybe to keep everyone happy we should go back to using the tree in front of the post office?

Ah yes, that was great, hardly missed a thing. Official Notices on the Boards and more chatty messages on the tree. I don't know if villages further afield had the equivalent though. Those were the days when a trip into Girne was a pleasure, not something to be avoided at all cost.
