For what type of action ? You want a lawyer that has a good track record in the type of issue you need help with mate.

Property - defaulting tenants - eviction etc.
Commercial - suing a business
Medical - malpractice
Legal - lawyer malpractice

There are some good ones but caveat emptor - there are some who will take your money, do nothing and then shrug. They claim to be competent but are only interested in your money.

There are no solicitors only lawyers and they work to a different set of rules, so make sure you get one who only asks for payment for work done and who will sign a contract requiring them to exercise a duty of care stipulating that they will only act in your best interests, especially if it's to sue another lawyer. To this end, it's always best to get a lawyer from a different district than that of the other party or party's lawyer.

You want one who is good when things go wrong, avoid recommendations of those whose action had no wrinkles - they are often hopeless when the slightest complications occur and then go all silent, evasive, want more money, can't give straight answers and are not proactive.

Gates, been there, seen it and am still suffering 21 years later because of NO DUTY OF CARE and decided not to sue. Actually suing a Dr or Advocate its virtually impossible in a country with a fairly straight forward legal system i.e. UK, VERY expensive because they avoid it if they can but at least you get a result one way or another eventually. Here, well you can try and then discover you are suing someone of the same tribe. Most of them are totally non-confrontational and just won't do it, others will take you on for the money but have no expertise whatsoever. I have a friend who has been to Court about 10 times in the last two years, cost a fortune, but the last Judge saw the correctness of the argument and she has won I believe. LEGAL translators are expensive because they have to be fully conversant in Turkish and English terminology.

There used to be the TRNC equivalent of UK Citizens Advice Bureau, where you could go for supposedly unbiased advice. I think it was somewhere on the Karakum road, but I haven't heard anyone mention it for some time now. Perhaps someone on the Forum can help with that one. Its just going to be word of mouth I think, but make sure your query is Like for Like otherwise you could be led up an expensive blind alley. Good luck.

The person that ran the CA went back to UK years ago under a cloud.

If it is to do with your house deeds or property issues there is only one person I would use:

Sylvia helped me out of a very sticky situation and in my view ‘deceitful’ attempt to extrapolate monies from me.

An additional benefit, is that she is English with Cypriot heritage and very reasonable cost wise. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

Good luck whatever your situation is.

Regards
Finn

PEYMAN ERGINEL LAW are good for advice but they charge - expect to pay £300 upwards for solid legal advice.
