Residency renewals fixed up

After our earlier query, I just thought I'd confirm that we got our temporary residency permits yesterday without a hassle and no fine for my husband's being overdue, which is a relief. Also I remember someone querying the cost of tax stamps for renewal and it's TL9, stamps available at cafe on same floor as cashier and residency office. Very pleasant people and very helpful. And thanks for all your advice too. Great to have it out of the way for another two years.

Good news that it was all sorted without hassle. We have always found the staff in immigration to be helpful and if you offer a smile and a few words it is so nice that you get that returned. They after all doing a job that I am sure is quite soul destroying at times.

I did ask about stamps but got no replies just had to do it the easy way and ask the people who know.

We surprised a friend this time who came along with us as we were going on to Erulku to fill a trolley. She was amazed that we were going so late as they always go at 07.00. Parked the car at 10.05, got ticket, did the paper work and left the car park at 10.45.

We went late morning and didn't have to queue, one other person in the office. Unfortunately we turned up on a Thursday where they closed for lunch, but we enjoyed a snack in the upstairs cafeteria and were served by a truly delightful young woman, very friendly and helpful, and just an incredibly happy person. Made the waiting until the cashier opened well worth while.

Can I ask about the cost? I remember there was a post a while ago about this but can't find it now. We are over 60 so will be going for 2 years.

It is 455tl each for 2 years. Plus 9tl stamp each. Plus whatever Muhtar charges and stamp on Muhtar form.

There have been numerous comments about what you need to take, BRS suggest passport, pink book, muhtar letter and evidence of income (bank statement). However we were also asked for a copy of passport, so it is worth taking copies of everything with you.

Remember this is for renewals only.

For renewals under 60's do you still have to go to the police station and then the hospital for blood and xrays, or can you just go directly to the hospital. Sorry is this has been covered elsewhere.

No change yet. I know BRS are trying to get age reduced to 50 so I suggest keep checking their web site for details.

I saw somewhere, don't know where I fished this info out from now, that a copy of the previous temporary residency visa is required. Don't know if this is actually required but our copies weren't handed back to us. We took the Muhtar's letter, completed forms signed at the residency office, passports,copy of passports, pink books (god knows why these are issued as they were just looked at and handed back), copy of bank account statement with income, plus the aforesaid 9TL stamps. Relief to have that over for another 2 years although thanks to the BRS for a great map, makes finding the Immigration Office dead easy.

The whole blood test residency set-up is a mess, honest ex-pats come to the T.R.N.C to invest in some cases £100's of thousands of pounds and are subjected to humiliating and degrading blood tests as if they are diseased animals it should be stopped or the T.R.N.C will go he same way as the South. I will not invest anything in the North now while this residency requirement is in force.

Munchkin - it's all in the eye of the beholder. Grin and get on with life and the requirements here. It didn't take long to get the x-rays and blood tests done, and we all need to remember we are guests in this country, we can't come here and dictate the rules and regulations. Better to smile, take a positive attitude, and hey! At least now at 65 and 76 respectively, we now know we don't have HIV or TB!!!!!

MoBray the pink books do have their uses. If you show them when visiting the sites (e.g. Kyrenia castle, Salamis, etc) you will get the 'local' discounted ticket price.

Tried that, has never worked for us. Show your driving licence, guaranteed. Plus at least one member in a group will have licence with them.

Thanks for that info, both of you, didn't know that but it'll be handy in the future. We often go to Salamis as Bryan used to play there as a kid. He said it was really overgrown then but he clearly remembers the ruts from chariot wheels which we couldn't find last time we were there. He says it's so different now it's been cleaned up a bit it's hard to figure out exactly where he saw the ruts. Bryan's been to Kyrenia Castle but I haven't been there yet, got some mobility problems so I'm waiting for a good day so I can hoof it around a bit.

Have used my pink book 3 or 4 times at Salamis in the last 2 years. Instead of paying (I think) 12.50TL it is only 3.50TL which is great. Same at Kyrenia Castle.
