Whatever excuses you come up with a dog is for life, if you take it on , you take on responsibility for that animal.

Would you send one of your children to that 'kiddy heaven in the sky' if they were a bit inconvenient, no, I didn't think so

Man up and take responsibility.

Marion:: I have thought about "fostering" and dog sharing. One person who has room but is short of money and or time offer a home and food, others help with exercise and grooming and several of us contribute to Vets fees etc.

But that would mean a lot of trust and the fosterer could end up lumbered.

And its not just food: Vets fees are escalating and is counter productive since it puts a lot of people off dog ownership, and there are incidentals s which add up like rgisration and insect collars and boarding for holidays and emergencies.

Even worse is the intolerance of dogs (particularly the Yeni Brits) and the poison risk and the number of dogs there are already in built up areas. People who have suitab;e gardens have to keep their dogs indoors at night to stop them joining in the barking caused by cats and inconsiderate people noise (motor bykes, passing revellers etc.) and when they are out because of the poison risk even in ones own garden! And the places suitable for walking them decreases daily.

This is a crisis reaching disaster proportions for people who care about animals and own , or would llike to own, dogs.

Togun : I can only offer you the comfort (which I took when one of my dogs was poisoned at three years old) that her life, if short, was a lot happier because of you.

Jellyfish: That is comment cruel and stupid. Have you not read earlier posts? This is not fancy pedigrree dog that someone rich idiot bought for vanity. It is a street dog that someone took out of kindness to stop it suffering.

I dont know Toguns circumstances and dont see why he should be edxpected to put them on a Board that canbe ready by anyone, but if people but it people stopped adopting dogs because they knew they would get no help if they were ill, ran out of moneythrough no fault of their own , had to care for a sick relative (including a child etc) et etc etc no one would adopt dogs and we would have an evenworse problem.

Your comment is an insult to all those people who make considerable sacrifices to care for animals that would otherwise lead miserable lives and suffer long drawn out and painful deaths. At the very least Togun has given a few months happiness to the life of a creature in a sad world populated by sad people.

wow. I just wrote a long response and it has got lost. What I tried to say is that we cannot judge any other person's circumstances, but it is clear that the owners of Missy are doing everything in their power to find her a home. I hope they are rewarded for their efforts.

As to a dog for life, - my parents had a wire haired terrier called |Peter that had been their 'baby' for 8 years. Then I unexpectedly (unplanned and unwanted) arrived, so as they feared for me as the dog kept trying to come into my cot, they had him put down. I find it difficult to understand that. No looking for another home, no trying to understand what the dog was really doing, but he had to go. Terrible to my mind, but they did what they thought was the right thing to do. The owners of Missy are trying very hard to ensure that Missy's life goes on in the best of circumstances.
don't condemn, but try to help.
As to fostering - i agree with you RR. It is not somethng I would do - it is lock stock and barrel for me, or not at all, but that is me. It did appear to be a possible optionb, but.....

Here's hoping that there is someone out there for missy!

Notice going in both Cyprus Star and Kibris Star on Friday, but time is runningout.

Jellyfish

Your comments were neither helpful nor relevant. The comparison between dog and kiddy heaven was especially insensitive.

I would ask that you refrain from further postings on this thread.

Marion: That has happened to me a lot - my lengthy and carefully considered words of wisdom disappear itno cyperspace - to my considerable frustration but no doubt to everyone's relief. I tthink it usually happens when two people post simultaneously in which case the post doesnt go through but you are asked if you want to reconsider in ghe light of other posts. Unfortunately if - like thee and me -you are chronically in a hurry you may miss the notice and think the post has gone through when it hasnt.

Back on topic you misunderstood me - I didnt say I wouldnt foster . I already care for three rescue dogs of which satisfies any need for a permanent canine company or pride of ownership., but I would be very happy to help with others and would love to do so with Missy. After all, in the past when work and family circumstances prevented me having a full time dog, I baby sat and walked dogs for others who needed a bit of help with their animals and enjoyed it and found it satisfying. Unfortunately other factors make it impossible for me care for Missy single handed and it appears no one is interested in a co-operative effort - a sympton of our cliqueish society. Very,,, very sad.

Hi, what a sad situation and Missy is a beautiful dog. I read a few of the posts, I was wondering when is YOUR deadline??? ( I could ask around as well to see who would like a dog)

On another note: I hear dogs barking like crazy, whimpering, n such in the late night early mornings..... anyone know why?
An idea: there are SO MANY buildings that are not used, WHY not convert those to Animal homes (somehow) "Kopekkoy" and another "Kedikoy"
Question: Are there more animals than people here???

Sorry if I misunderstood RR. But I think the practicalities of sharing a dog could lead to canine schizophrenia! itg really needs a home over which it can rule! were I nearer I might help, but I hardly have time to wlak Dudu, or do anything for that matter, let alone take on another. If I had a large garden as I did in Wales, that might be a possibility but here with a pocket handkerchief of one - then no.

here is hoping that someone comes forward. I know there are many other dogs needing home,s but I think Missy has stolen a few hearts all of which would love to see her happily re-homed.

and to corono 24 - nice idea, but who would take charge! no money, no workers, no time etc, but I just love the idea of Kopekkoy. !

MONEY... if there is money then there is a job, now who wants to work and fun with play?
Okay, anyone know anyone in the government? TAXES !!!! I know of the KAR charities and I am thinking (though some people are going to hate me now) the market/boot sales money. If you book a stall and more or less estimate the amount you hope to get from your goodies, then at the end of the day a portion of the price to book a stall and your earnings should/could go to the project??? "Home the Stray!" (I am thinking as I'm writing). Topgun, you mentioned she was trained by an Ex-military, have you gone to any military places that would like a dog that is already experienced? or Police Dog? Is there a kids adoption place or senior citizens home? Dogs are great (and miss soudns perfect) for "lonely" people...

There have already been suggestions (not from dog lovers) that Ozankoy should be renamed Kopekkoy because of the noise!

Think what it would be like with lots of dogs in an empty building! Why do you think KAR had to relocate to such an inconveniently remote location? Anyway imho kennels are only a temporary stopgap at best for strays.

Sorry Marion I also disagree re sharing. I have seen several instances of dog sharing in the past tht have worked well - and the dog has been very happy to have several humans at it back and call!!!!!! If anyone risks schizophrenia (such long words so late at niight) its the humans but in these instances they were all united in doing what was best for the dog in the circumstances where no single one had the time and/or money to do so alone.

We dog share because the 2 field spaniels next door to us are left in the garden from 7am till 6pm Mon-Fri while the owners are at work, they are taken for a short walk about 6.30 am so we take them of our own accord for a run round a field (the neighbour knows we do it) at lunch time, they are clever dogs at 12 noon they start to bark. When our neighbour goes away on holidays twice a year and some weekends we look after them full time and they are taken out 4 times a day, we just about get a little thank you by word of mouth for all this, we do feel taken for granted but we do it for the dog's sake. When we are in NC on holiday we contribute dog food to KAR everytime we go into the supermarket, people do criticise KAR but we have never been to the kennels, no matter what the animals need feeding and if I can help with that I will.
I feel really sorry for these people trying to find a home for Missy, I hope they are successful as they must be going through a terrible time and don't deserve the cruel comments.

If Missy is homed, perhaps we could all turn our attention to Brandy (see posting elsewhere). It makes me so sad but sadness is a fact of life, and all we can do is try to find answers ot put smiles on faces. Doesn't always happen, but I DO hope both Missy and Brandy are given loving homes where I am sure they will add even more love.

Hi Everyone, I cannot thank you ALL enough for all of your support and suggestions in trying to find "Missy" a New Loving Home and the attention that Missy has achieved.....
Well, "Missy" is at this current time frolicking around on a "48hr Probation" and looking quite comfortable with 7 other well kept dogs which are owned and cared for by a permanent resident here, a lady that called me just before 9am this morning saying she heard about Missy and wanted to give her a home.....
It seemed surreal, but we headed out toward Esentepe with Missy sitting in the front of the car on my wife's knee with her head out of the window enjoying the wind in her face and eventually arrived to what was a huge house with massive grounds, totally secure with 7 mixed dogs running around...
At first "Missy" was greeted by a lot of barking and dominance by 4 bitches and 3 boys and was a little over-whelmed, especially by 2 of the "Boy's" that seemed to take a shine to her and 1 of the females that tried to dominate her.
However after 2/3 hrs of socialising and mingling and dipping in the pool she seemed unbelievably settled and content. We agreed with the "potential new owner" for Missy that we shall give her a 48hr trial to ensure she is ok, but on the face of things "all seems good" and potentially Missy will have another new loving owner and also 7 family dogs to play with as a permanent home.
So as things stand by Friday we shall know for sure, but we have to make sure it is good for both Missy and the new owner, we will NOT just dump her and hope for the best.
So by Friday I hope to tell you all "We have done it!!" and it just goes to show that you can achieve anything, IF you put your mind to it with enough effort and of course a little help from above...... Thank you Everyone!!! and will update you Friday

Best news of the day.

Really well done for your persistence and also strength of character. Really hope that Friday will see the end of your worries and a great new life for Missy. You can then leave the island, no doubt with a tear and some sadness at saying goodbye to her but knowing you did the very best to give her the best life possible.

I am sure not many will know the person who has come to the rescue, but I am sure that I speak for the majority in saying that they are a true gem!

Once again great news.

ATTENTION EVERYONE AND ALL THE FOLLOWERS OF THIS POST ABOUT MISSY!!!

We have Fantastic News, because the trial probation of Missy living with her New Loving Home has gone better than expected. It seems she has more than settled in as part of the family, but in particular there is "ONE" of the 7 other dogs that is madly in love with her and thinks he will get his way with her, but sadly he has more chance of mating with a cat...
We cannot wait to see Missy this weekend to say goodbye properly which is certainly going to be very tearful, but at least we know she could not have been given a better 2nd home and owner.
I must Thank EVERYONE in this forum for their kind support that you gave Mary and I and I am sure that Missy has now become the most famous dog in TRNC.... "but she's worth it!"....
Anyway, to put you all out of your curiosity, I have asked and obtained permission to publicise the name of the "New Owner of Missy" who really is a "Gem" and a lifesaver!!! Her name is Linda from Kara arch (think I may have spelt it wrong) but on the way to Esentepe...
Thank you ALL once again and now we can officially close this post and move on to try and save other poor animals....

Seconded Woodspeckie. The story echoes that of my newest adoptee, who also had to be rehomed. The transition was really helped because she fell for one of my other dogs - 18 months later the love affair continues. It cannever be productive but they have great fun trying and alleviate the exercise problem by chasing each other round the garden and it helps keep the older dog young and active.

Well, Missy certainly has made herself completely at home and become one of the pack with her new family. In fact she was so settled that on Sunday when we went to see her for the last time before we leave, she was so busy running around with her new family that she was quite oblivious to my wife and I which in some ways was upsetting, but of course it was a good thing and cemented that she was settled.
What was amazing is that she actually "now" loves the water and swimming in the pool, whereas before she was scared of water. Now she just steps into the pool, has a little dip to cool down or even takes a swim and really looks like she enjoys it....
After a glass of wine or 2 we sadly had to say goodbye to all and it was at this point where Missy came over to me and made a big fuss and wanted extreme cuddles. It broke my heart saying goodbye to her, but we shall be keeping in touch and plan to return in the not too distant future....
Thank you to everyone in Kibkom and I shall continue to engage on the forums and try to keep in contact even whilst we are in Abu Dhabi...
Until we return, everyone take care and speak soon...
Best Regards
Mark & Mary
