Overdose of lost pet/rehome a pet posts
Just logged on,and saw 6 out of 1st 15 topics were either lost pet (doh! I forgot to shut the gate!)or adopt a pet(my circumstances have changed and I need to get rid of some pets type thing).
Given that the place is full of peeps that seem to have more time for pets than anything else, what happened to the 'pet section' I thought the forum had , or better still how about all you doggy lovers start a dedicated pet related forum?
Much as I love animals, and having adopted 3 very demanding feral cats,I would rather read about other stuff on the main page of the forum-such as where to buy the best screwdrivers, and what the weather is like in the UK.
And before everyone says 'well if its on the main page there is more chance that the pooch/moggie gets a new home'
well,I disagree, because taking an animal on because your heartstrings are stretched,Is probably the worst reason for taking on an animal, and is along the lines of buying the kids a puppy for Christmas.
The problem is as far as I see it is that folk put about as much thought into the huge commitment of pet ownership as they do to having kids.
Hence the number of disaffected. feral. unwanted uncared for children around.
Just put 2 tin hats on as I have seemed to have a dig a pet owners as well as child owners, but I just needed to get that off my chest and feel better for it,regardless of the consequences.

Screwdrivers, Pets, Plumbers...whatever the thread; occasion or happening, all are welcome as long as the posters comply with the rules of this forum.
Yes pets seem to be in the lead at the moment but I am sure in a week or so screwdrivers will fight back....or maybe something else will come in and make a bid for the top position.
At the end of the day if it does not interest then no need to read it.
Enjoy the forum!

Re: Overdose of lost pet/rehome a pet posts
If I wasnt a lady I might be tempted to make a suggestion about those screwdrivers that would get me banned. As it is I think Philoz uses them to wind people up.
No flak Philoz . because a bit of me agrees about the overdose of sad dog stories. But I think you are being rather harsh in not appreciating the sacrificies some people make to care for stray dogs (we are not talking vanity dogs here) and how heartbraking it canbe if one becomes unable to continue for reasons beyond ones control.
The tragedy is that people have to resort to on forum one off individual basis, and no one appears to care about trying to get together to provide help in such circumstances - there are so many situations where one individual really cant do much, but two or more working together and combining resources could do a lot more.

Rose-as usual you and I agree.
As you say(in your third paragraph) there needs to be a focused arena where doggy folk can discuss their canine issues and help retrieve lost dogs, and generally winge and whine about canine relate issues.
That was exactly my point-in suggesting a 'Doggy forum'.
Frankly,I imagined your reply was going to be harsher.
I am off to polish my screwdrivers.

Glad to see you back again R.R.
It seem earlier you thought I was going to OUT you, and it would be the death of you.
Keep posting we all know who you are but do not wish you any arm, and look after those lovely dogs.
Ps. You have sent to many letters to our news paper over the years for us old timers not to know who you are.
It's the way you write.
Mel.
God Bless.

Re: Overdose of lost pet/rehome a pet posts
I think it's very sad that there is a need for people to post about lost and found animals, however, a forum like this is the quickest way to communicate with others.
I see many many posts that I have absolutely no interest in, but choose not to read them. So nobody has to read a post they don't wish to, but don't think restricting topics, as long as they conform with forum rules, is the way forward.

Philoz: You misunderstand me - there needs to be a separate facility where people can go for advice and help with stray animals. Failing this forums and the press are necessary to bring the problem to more people's attention than the limited few who are likely to read a specialist forum and I agree with Mozgor.
And please try to understand it is not "winging and whining" - it is genuine concern for very sad circumstances both for humans and animals.
Mel: Thanks I will get back to you later.

Re: Overdose of lost pet/rehome a pet posts
Good to see you back RR. It is good that there is a variety of posters and as I have said before if people do not like what you say that is their problem.
As for philoz and his rant about animals, I agree 100%. There are hundreds of sad looking critters that the british natural mode is to try to help, but this is Cyprus not UK. I used to read the occasional post about "lost dogs" in case I could help but not any more, we are on overload. There is a pet section so I suggest that if people are interested they look there for there lost pet because that is where the item should be posted.
philoz, self and others are not animal haters, we have 4 cats that own us but I personally I am fed up of trying to wade through the animal posts.

Re: Overdose of lost pet/rehome a pet posts
You're not going to be too pleased about yet another thread that has come on this morning. I sometimes feel that I live, breath and sleep animals and even I am fast coming to the conclusion that animals (lost and found), queries, information etc., should be placed in the Animals section and if contributors won't do it then Mods will have to do it for them. Perhaps the very first post can go on the open Forum for everyone to read, then Mods should move it to its appropriate place. Sorry to give you more work to do Mods., but I suspect you'll be doing a lot of people a favour if you were to go down this route in future.

Sophie, this is what we normally do, but try and leave for a couple of days on Main page before moving. Seems like it has just got a little out of hand. We will start moving posts.

Oh god this is the new cyprus 44 clearly * * * * * *now ban me as i will never post on here again. * * * * * *
(You are not banned, but warned that swear words and unacceptable criticism is not allowed in this squeaky clean/non Cyprus 44 forum. )
the system we have works well of posting on the main page to draw attention to needs, sales etc, etc and then moved as felt appropriate at the right time. It culd be that a post is best served left on the main forum, but each case is individual. Hope you are not offended, but I had to cut the words that I could not find in my dictionary.

H & T nobody has been nasty on this thread except you. It is somewhat of an over reaction. Nobody said they were anti animal, just that it should be put in the appropriate part of the forum. Seems like common sense and would make it easier for those who want info on animals to find it.

* * * . People post on the main forum to get more views, advice, help then if the mods would like to move if there after that is their choice. Think people are BORED as i said cyprus 44 seems to have congregated
(first few words deleted as offensive, but the rest of the posting makes sense -0 although many may disagree with the last statement.)

Re: Overdose of lost pet/rehome a pet posts
I think putting the posts on the main page but moving when people have had time to see them is a very good compromise - I thought it was already been done. Just one thing can you leave the original post on the main thread with a note saying there is follow up on the pets (or whatever) thread.
Anothe thing, there seem to me to be a lot of posts that should really be on the for sale or wanted (or even appear as an ad). Equal ops - theyshould be treated the same way.

Well thank you for not banning me & i do appologise to the mods for bad language but glad you settled the rights that that all post's have to be up on the main forum until moved by yourselves. At the end of the day don't read it if ut's no interest to you. Im sure that the people that own this forum have worked hard to get it to where it is today it would just be a shame to have people bullied off like cyprus 44

H&T, I am a little confused, you are complaining over the amount of posts about dogs but you have two posts of your own regarding puppies, if you could explain I would be grateful. If I am barking up the wrong tree please tell me.

Re: Overdose of lost pet/rehome a pet posts
We try to move post to correct section within 2 days. I have asked a member this week that had been putting posts on the general section for selling goods, to stop doing so in future.
I have already moved some posts, but felt that as Missy's post was "HOT", would leave for members to finish off posting before locking and moving.
Would be nice if all members created threads in the appropriate categories, makes the mods life easier. Some members are afraid that their posts will not be read, but this is not so, many of our members use the View Unread Posts or View New Posts Link, it does not matter which section they are in, they will be read.
Alternatively, you could purchase a Sticky or Global for a reasonable price, and money will go to a good cause.
Finally, would be nice if the many people using the forum to sell goods, used the donate button to leave a small thank you gesture.

Re: Overdose of lost pet/rehome a pet posts
Thanks Soner. The thing is with homing dogs all the regulars who are able and willing already have as many if not more than we can cope with and our hearstrings , not to mention patience and purses are stretched to breaking point. It needs something to catch the eye of newcomers - to the Board and to the country. With lost dogs people who dont normally read the pet thread might still be willing to keep a lookout if they know an animal is their area - indeed glad to help get one of the strays off their street andback home.
Personally, I tend to read the main board only, only clicking on subjects that interest me.I get very annoyed with "teaser" heading which are deliberately ambiguous to draw me in to something I am not interested in - if they are advertising a pub for instance I immediately make note to boycotte it!!! If people made their headings clearer there would be less excuse for protests like Philiz

REPLY TO KARMELS AND CIH (DON READ IF YOU ARE FED UP WITH ME!)
Thanks for the welcome back.
I am not really worried about old timers knowing me provided they dont put me real identity on the board. But despite the efforts of the mods and many nice people here, there are weirdos out there -- also one poster has made it very clear she does NOT wish me well and could make trouble locally.
But that has not been my only reason for absence - I need to devote time to health issues and financial problems.
Also I have not been inspired by many recent posts, and dont think I am a very typical kibcomer. I dont dwell in marble halls, own a swimming pool or drive a vehicle with ambitions to be a tank , like loud music or niosy pubs and I am appalled by what people spend at restaurants on expensive imported food and mobility problems prevent much travelling outside a limited area. Even the garden is designed to excercise dogs who dont get enough walkies and containls mostly cheap local , drought resistant plants to save me time and energy and the beleagured water table! And on top of that I am a technophobe and dont understand the questions, let alone the answers, about the internet! Sad or what? Or sensible? Anyway no surprise therefore it took a doggy post to tempt me back into the water!

Glad to see you back Rose-I sort of knew how to tempt you out of your self imposed exile.
Good thing about this forum is that it doesn't matter if you are rich or poor, are 'sans' pool or 'avec' pool.
we are all the same.
I agree with you about the big cars- whats all that about?
There is nowhere to drive ,and the roads are poor.
And Stevie wonder would probably be the best driver here.
Ooops gone all off topic.

Philoz : Its not mainly lack of money (though the bad investment did not help but thats another story) I dont envy the richest (apart perhaps for security) and am just grateful Im not so far the poorest! Its more personal choice and priorities and not wanting to contribute to the destruction of of the North Cyprus I used to know. Just dont get me started on the big cars.......................................

Well I am intrigued to say the least, why would you not want to be 'outed' are you a danger to the public or something
