knee replacement
Hi there,
I am looking for some information for a friend who is thinking of re having a knee replacement done here.
Has anyone had it done who was the Surgeon? what was the aftercare like? etc.
Any recommendations or places to avoid would be most helpful.
Many thanks
in anticipation.

Re: knee replacement
Hi There,
I had a knee replacement carried out by a Dr Hakan Dinchyurek about 3 years ago.
Very successful operation and excellent after care. Much better than in UK and no MRSA to worry about.
I was back dancing 3 months after the operation.
Dr Hakan is I believe one of the most experienced orthopaedic surgeons in TRNC. He also carries out operations in Turkey.
His no is 0542 851 2928.
If and when my other knee joint needs replacing I will certainly go back.
If you need any more info please email me on grahame50@gmail.com

Re: knee replacement
I needed a hip replacement a few years ago and did the rounds of orthopaedic surgeons here in the north and even in the south. My conslusion was that none of them had anywhere near enough experience to do mine. I returned to the UK and had a fabulous job done. No names, no pack drill, but I know too many people who have had their hips/knees done here with disastrous results. The previous post sounds great but suspect that is a very rare experi9ence. Get back to the uk where the surgeons actually know what they are doing.Don't even think about having it done here.
If your friend decides to have it done here, hope he/she has a good sense of humour, not to mention a very high pain threshold.

Re: knee replacement
There are good surgeons here. But what puts me off having any procedure in the TR is that if anything should go wrong, the legal system is not good, and persuing any sort of action would be nothing short of a nightmare. At least in the UK, or other countries for that matter, one can be sure that the surgeon will have professional indemnity insurance and that any justified complaint can be sorted out.

Re: knee replacement
I think medical care here can be hit and miss, you take a bit of a chance. Unless you want something in a hurry I would look at UK or even Istanbul to be honest. I have yet to see much that would give me a lot of faith here medically speaking.
Some are wise and some otherwise.....

Re: knee replacement
Thank you all for taking the time to respond to my query, and the private messages (PM ) received.
Going down the route of a clean out of the knee on Wednesday not a replacement the second opinion sort suggested this, so we can give it a little longer before going down the new knee route, Fingers crossed it works.
Thanks again to all

I would never let anyone operate on me other than here in the UK, certainly not in TRNC, I have heard some horror stories.
The TRNC is the perfect place to live if you are young, wealthy and nothing bothers you too much.

Belle, this is just a quick observation. I have just seen another topic that you posted on and you were not very nice on that either. Me thinks its time you went back to UK or where ever it is you come from. You do'nt seem to be very happy in TRNC, so why are you staying there. We would love the chance to be living in the TRNC after visiting the place 3 to 4 times a year for the last 13 years. We also know it's not perfect but if you do your homework before you go you should know what to expect, so why bother posting negative things about the place. As the saying goes Ya pays ya money and ya take a chance.

Re: knee replacement
Whether negative or positive everyone is entitled to their opinion surely, why tell someone to get back to where they came from because they disagree with you. We did our homework and decided not to move there everyone has a choice doesn't mean to say I am in the wrong.

I am neither young, sadly, or wealthy, and I have been around long enough not to let a great deal bother me.belle wrote:I would never let anyone operate on me other than here in the UK, certainly not in TRNC, I have heard some horror stories.

I think the part of your comment," except here in the UK " says quite a lot with regard to how you see things here.
I know this place is not perfect, nowhere is, but it has everything that we need and we are happy to live here, I would have to be very desperate to ever consider returning to the UK. We have a limited income and so cut our coat accordingly, we are retired and don,t have youngsters to educate, all in all we feel this life offers us a better standard of living for the years we have left on this earth.

Once again I do wish people would read my posts, I would not have an operation ANYWHERE other than the UK, nothing personal to the TRNC.elizabeth wrote:I am neither young, sadly, or wealthy, and I have been around long enough not to let a great deal bother me.belle wrote:I would never let anyone operate on me other than here in the UK, certainly not in TRNC, I have heard some horror stories.

Re: knee replacement
BTW, my aunt at the age of 80 had a knee replacement in TRNC which went extremely well. Can't give you all the ins and outs but I know she is walking around quite happily now.

Re: knee replacement
Hi to everyone, Update on operation carried out on Wednesday.
The procedure went very, very well, spinal anesthetic so awake during the whole procedure, I was offered both options and also a sedative if i wanted one to make me feel drowsy. I declined the offer and watched it on TV; all was explained step by step throughout, at my request.
I was most impressed both surgeons and the Anesthetist were very informative as they explained all what was happening, in easy to understand LAYMAN'S TERMS, Not Dr's medical speak........
Dr Genk Soyadan and his team were amazing, thank you so much for looking after me, the after care and overnight stay was like a 5 star hotel service the nurses were great, whoever says that you do not get the level of nursing care here has never stayed at this place hospital because it was fantastic................. My named nurse was there as much as i needed her, all the time day and night as i stayed over for one night, personal care was unbelievable ( I wanted to bring her home, nothing was too much trouble).
Pain management was also excellent although i did not need any! Surprise surprise.............cos i am a wimp.
Thanks again to a brilliant team, i cannot recommend them enough.
