Have any of you had the strange unsolicited text message form Telsim that I had today.? I tried to get it checked out, but too many people in the shop and no time tophone, but it seems odd to receive a message that read "Your application for blocking calls from private numbers has been activated..........." But I never applied for that! It goes on to give a number to ring.
I know of four other people who have received this and mainly deleted it as unwanted,but..... any others of you had one or know what the heck it is about. Obviously I cannot do anything until tomorrow but just in case someone out there has found out something today, I am writing this to see if I can find any answers. It all seems extremely weird.

Re: Strange TELSIM message
I had the message as well (telsim). It seems to me it is saying that if you do nothing then incoming calls from phone numbers that 'hide' their number will be automatically blocked. If you do not want such calls blocked just dial #253# and you will no longer block such incoming calls. You can turn the blocking of such incoming calls again with *253#
I did not request such blocking - I suspect its just something they 'turned on' for some reason.

thanks Erol./ But why should they say we all requested it, or is it something 'lost in translation'. And why put us all to the bother of doing something about something we don't even understand. I think it is REALLY odd, and others say it is a Spam text message. Obviously clarificaiton form Telsim is required, but I am dying of curiosity here.

Re: Strange TELSIM message
My guess would be its the result of an automated system. They turned it on centrally and an automated message went out to all customers saying 'Your application for ....' even though no request came from the individual customers. That is my guess any way. It is definitely a message from telsim - it is from the same number all their other 'spam' messages come from (like 'the weekend starts here' message and others). If you do not want to accept calls from people that hide what number they are calling from then you do not have to do anything. If you do you do, but it is not difficult - just dial #253# and it is done.Marions wrote:thanks Erol./ But why should they say we all requested it, or is it something 'lost in translation'. Yes, I checked the message details too and saw it was the same number. So it does seem to be a 'lost in translation'. As far as I can see I don't get calls form people who hide their number anyway! But thanks Erol for the clarification. I guess they think they are being helpful, but it hasn't been helpful to me!

Re: Strange TELSIM message
Marion, I went through a period last year of getting "blocked" numbers and then they suddenly stopped. I put it down to the following
1) Salesman flogging Double glazing
2) Agent for Ambulance chasing solicitors
3) Salesman flogging Victorian lookalike conservatories.
4) Others too numerous to mention.
