in the UK the same car with 70,000 miles on the clock is £490. You people are lunatics paying these prices, I know about the tax over there but that is the sellers problem not the buyers. You people really need to wise up. A car that old is just junk value, nothing more. Just my opinion of course. Cars like this one are bought in the UK for banger racing.

Belle
It is all about market forces and what the market i.e. buyer and seller will allow.
Costs for cars, goods, services etc vary the world over - the market in the TRNC is such that cars tend to seem more expensive due to may reasons. What may seem as old, worthless etc in the UK may well be seen as a bargain, good value in other countries.
The seller is advertising the car and setting the cost based on the in country market not on the UK car market

Belle,
You may have found a niche in the market. Buy that car in UK, transport it to Cyprus then sell it at a good profit. Think positive!

Soner and PID, I agree but the brits who take their cars to the TRNC know they have to pay the tax, that should be their problem not the buyer, he/she should pay a fair price, the seller is the losee, maybe then brits and other expats would buy cars in the TRNC and boost the trade there.

Re: Wanted: automatic car
One of the problems is that this is such a small place that prices are nowhere near the same as other larger places, such as U.K. I mean, could I come to U.K and buy a house in C~helsea that is up for 6 million and say, Wow, I will offer you one million because that is all it would be worth in North Cyprus. Equally the other ridiculous end of the scale is the value of cars, whether new or second hand. They hold their value beyond all recognition. So sadly, one cannot compare with U.K, or with America, or with France, or with Australia, or India or anywhere else. As this is TRNC, then one is stuck with the economy, and has to purchase within it ()or pay huge taxes bringing in a motor vehicle from overseas), or choose to live somewhere else that the economy may better suit the individual.
But good luck with the search of the car H & T. I am sure your ideal vehicle is out there somewhere.

I agree with the comments but I think the car is priced too high. I bought a Ford Focus 2005 in excellent condition and I paid £5000 from a dealer.

I was talking to someone yesterday and they told me the price of second hand cars here is dropping because of the glut in the market, so check around and ignore the people expecting stupid money for old bangers, especially on forums where they think they can get a premium.

Re: Wanted: automatic car
I totally agree that second hand cars in the TRNC are way over priced, it has been like that for many years and I have excepted the way it is, does not mean I would buy, but there will always be buyers and if there are buyers then the prices will remain high.
Halfful, the prices have nothing to do with selling via a forum, if anything they should be cheaper as there is no charge for selling from the forum, although we ask for donations, which in reality are not forthcoming. Prices of second hand cars are high where ever you buy in the TRNC, it's a matter of negotiating to try and bring the price down. If there is a demand for anything then it will reflect on price....would be good if this changed but for now this is how it is in the TRNC. Finally, if someone does over price something then the fact is it just will not sell.

Re: Wanted: automatic car
Regarding buying in the UK and shipping over. We recently made enquiries at a ford Dealership on Merseyside. We asked about purchasing the car VAT free for overseas shipping to a Non EU Country. It is possible to get the VAT off new and secondhand cars for this purpose. VAT on a new car, is on the full value of the car, however on a secondhand car the VAT is either on the full value of the car or VAT payable on the dealers profit. You have to ask the dealership how their VAT is paid.
Thats the easy part! The dealer has to fill in a form with your details etc, this he then sends off to get another form to fill in which enables you to purchase the car, at this point we were losing the will to live, as well as running out of time. It can take upto six weeks for the paperwork to materialise, so allow plenty of time if you plan on doing this. You can drive the VAT free vehicle for upto six months prior to departure.
Our next step was to find out how much the import duties would be. A quick call from England to the Tax office in Lefkosa left us no wiser on the amount of duty we would have to pay. So we gave up the idea and will be looking to buy here.
