Dog poisonings in Karsiyaka foothills

One of our dogs was the victim of poisoning again last week, the fifth time in her case and the fifth time she has survived the awful experience. Others, I know have not been so lucky. Our latest vet bill is 650TL. This added to all the other vet bills comes to a considerable sum of money. I am sick and tired of the complacency here of the authorities and the inability of the police to do anything to stop this. Many of us here know which family it is that puts down the poison. A lawyer friend of mine suggests a civil legal action might at least gain some publicity and a way of identifying the culprit, with the added bonus of newspaper publicity. I am at the point now of refusing to do just nothing. The thought of this person having to defend himself and put his head above the parapet gives me some sense of satisfaction and might make him feel just a little bit vulnerable and think twice next time. I'd like to hear the views of others, especially those whose dogs have suffered poisoning. Gathering a list of how many dogs have been poisoned over the years would be helpful. Thanks.

I lost 2 dogs and 2 cats to poisoning in Karsiyaka, roundabout 2006 (will have to check that date). Poison laid close to the bin at the end of our road, close to Olive Oil Factory. It happened at night, so we were not aware until the morning, when it was too late. The dogs were street dogs and had only just been sorted and tagged by KAR. Very friendly animals.

My friend Karen who used to live further down the road in Karsiyaka (closer to the Square), had poison thrown into her garden at night, and her dog also died. Good luck with your campaign.
Around this time KAR handed in a petition to the Government, to stop the sale of poisons........maybe its time for another one.

Sorry to hear you are going through this AGAIN!! It is sickening that poison is still being laid down, and is still available to buy.

Would you please give a more precise indication of the area. We are at the east end of the village.

I am sure that if you decided to take legal action then some sort of donations would be given to help especially from victims who want to see justice. Maybe KAR would offer help from their massed files.

How sad for you. I too am incensed with this problem, our poor dogs never get a run out because of this. I would be happy to donate something towards legal costs.

KAR keep records of poisonings

Thanks for all your support, our dog picked up poison (we think) to the west of the new(ish) Selvi village development near the piece of land that Gagari has fenced off. We thought it would be OK to let them off their leashes for a few minutes as Gagari's two young Kangals had been roaming about in the area for a few weeks without suffering any harm. But our Toyah seems to be a magnet for any dodgy stuff that's lying around, unfortunately. It just seems such a shame that with all this open land available, this nonsense has to go on.

I really need to find out who has had an animal poisoned anywhere west of Karsiyaka Primary School, as that is where most of these poisonings seem to occur.

Frontalman I am sorry to hear of this, this will not stop, you are living amongst people who hate dogs and a lot abuse their own so why would they care about anyone else's.

My dog was poisoned near Guzelyali beach about 6 weeks ago. He did recover but it makes you so nervous when out and about. I walk him up by Selvi Village most days and, touch wood, have not had a problem but I will now take even more care than usual. I always carry Atropin and my phone but that shouldn't really be necessary. People are often walking past Gagari's place but I haven't heard of any other poisonings lately.

Last spring we lost a dog to poisoning on the mountain road just to the east of the Selvi development and I know of at least two other dogs that were killed around the same time. This year I have heard of two dogs killed at the same spot. We did notify the police but as far as I know no action was taken. If we can help in any way to stop the poisoner we would be happy to get involved.
