I have heard that there's an excellent eye specialist, believed to be East of Girne, and he rides a motor bike, but I can find out no more. Does anyone know him, his name, phone number and perhaps even an address where he practises I would be most grateful for any information.

Dr Deniz tel no 03928154950. Was at the Celiker clinic a couple of years ago. I dont know if he is still there. This clinic is parallel to the main Lapta - Girne road.Coming from Lapta turn right at the round about at top of HSBC road. You will be in patatra city road. Turn left at the top and you will see the clinic a few yards up on the right.Coming from Catalkoy etc turn left at the fountain roundabout near the Wednesday market then right, go along the road keeping the electric sub station on your left. Go past Bektas and Starling keep going and you will see the clinic on yr left. Its a house with the downstairs used as a small clinic. He may have other premises too. He does travel round on a motor bike.

There is also a lady opthalmic surgeon who has her clinic in Girne. Coming from Catalkoy to the big roundabout (near Saltys) turn left. At the Bellapais light, turn right and her clinic is on the right, first corner. She is a lovely lady, speaks excellent English too.

The Celiker clinic is stil there but I do not know if the eye specialist is. If he is not I can thoroughly recommend the guy at the Kolan Hospital or the one opposite the State Hospital in Lefkosa, Dr Mustafa.
Personally I would not go to the lady near the Bellapais traffic lights.
I have a lot of experience in eye specialists having had detached retinas & cataracts in both eyes!

Like others here I wouldn't go the the person you referred to near the Bellapais lights. (charming though she may be) I won't go into detail other than to say she made a complete hash of one cataract Op. which had to be redone with the aid of a Specialist especially sent over from Turkey. However Dr Mustafa Guvenir I know for a fact has picked up serious eye problems that others haven't picked up. His offices are a little difficult to describe but if you pm me I can give you my phone number and I can talk you through it or you can Email him for details yourself. He was honest enough to admit that in his opinion there was no-one in the TRNC with the expertise to produce varifocals of the complexity I needed. I didn't listen to him and I certainly wish I had!!

To Sophie -- re your reply in answer to my query. Do you happen to have an e.mail address for Dr. Mustafa Guvenir, since telephoning, particularly to someone unaware of my voice problem, can be very difficult. Many thanks.

Directions - Go past Lefkosa state hospital heading towards Lefkosa centre, take 3rd exit at next roundabout and then 1st right (just after Sony/Beko store), his surgery is straight ahead in an apartment building on RHS opposite rough ground used as a car park. Alternatively, at roundabout take 4th exit (back the way you came) and first left (after Akay Optics), then left again following the road around to right and then left. Surgery is on left hand side.
I, too, would thoroughly recommend Dr Mustafa, we took our daughter to him for a second opinion after she was incorrectly diagnosed with Glaucoma by lady referred to in message 4. All the family go to him now.

Dog Walker - sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, but the directions as given to you by come-on-aylin are spot on. And yes, be prepared by a bit of a wait, take a book or something. He doesn't hurry his patients and takes endless pains with them.

On a similar subject, but admittedly slightly off thread, can anybody recommend an optician to prescribe a pair of variable focus pair of glasses with top quality lenses? In or east of Girne.
Thanks

Further to my post re varifocals early in this thread. I have not had a 100% varifocal success in the TRNC unfortunately, because I require top quality lenses, thin lens, non reflective lenses but NOT photocromatic. Everyone praised Akay Optics in Girne town and they assured me that all would be well and they would order Zeiss lens from the UK. They eventually arrived and I paid 690tl for two lenses. I was never convinced they were the correct shape or as per specialists prescription. Canada Optics also maintain they can produce exactly what I requested but I'm not that pleased with them. Consequently I believe Dr Guvenir is probably correct when he said that he could not honestly recommend anyone this side of the border for complex prescriptions. For basic needs I'm sure Akay and Canada are perfectly fine.

Dr Guvenir sounds like the expert round here.
I am well overdue for an eye test, but only suffer from the usual age related long sightedness -though to be honest my eyesight generally is not a patch on what it was pre 40 .
My close up sight is so bad I have to buy +4 reading glasses-I look like Fred scuttle with them on the bloody lenses are so thick!
Can anyone tell me whether he does regular eye tests, much like an optician in the UK, or is he just dealing in more complex eye problems?
Thanks in anticipation.

Philoz, yes, he does regular eye test as well. Make an appointment and take a book. Don't expect to get in on the time allocated, he's wonderful to talk to and so reassuring. I only wish we'd know of his existance years ago. Vonnie, I've been following your other thread as well, but it's difficult not to put too much of a frightener on people!!

I am interested in the lens implant technique you mention, I was first made aware of the technique from the lady at the Bellapais traffic lights, when she was in her old premises, it was when I enquired about laser surgery, her advice was to wait a couple of years to see how the implant technique faired and to go down this route as opposed to laser surgery, well more than a couple of years have passed and your post has awoken my curiosity on the subject, it would be good if you could keep us updated on the BB as to how you progress. I am surprised with the negative press regarding the lady I initially went to, because over the years I have spoken to a few people who have had treatment like cataract’s, corrective surgery, and suspected retina detachments who have nothing but praise for the lady, is it just the case that she is good but this other specialist is better, or is she really that bad?

I visited Dr. Guvenir this morning, and was very impressed. He was all the good things that have been said about him, and even more.Very professional and thorough, talked things through and was prepared to listen and advise. I actually only went to make an appointment, but was seen after little more than an hour, and have a further appointment in 4 weeks. Thankfully no glaucoma nor cataracts, just a new pair of specs, and dry-eye treatment, which was my original reason for visiting another less-than-satisfactory establishment, also mentioned by others!

Hi Aitchie,I planned to have the op with this lady within the next couple of weeks. My eyes arnt suitable for laser surgery, and i was never any good with contact lenses,so when this lady said i could have the lens implants,i thought,Great,,No more glasses which i hate.but the advice ive been getting from the other forum is wait till the end of summer because the cyprus sun, being so bright, may irratate my eyes.and it also gives me a chance now to see the other Dr which has been mentioned here.but i will let you all know how i get on.
