What are the requirements for a female from the UK who has lived in the TRNC, full time, continually for a number of years who wishes to apply for Citizenship of the TRNC.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks.

As I understand it, at the moment, you can't! One of the reasons I kinda know (but am happy to be updated) is because I came here to be a citizen and the door got shut a while ago. Maybe the new government will come up with something new, but at the moment, the only ones that seem ot be given citizenship are those married to a citizen for at least two years. (that is not me). Plus of course technically there is no government at the moment, so don't reckon we can find any answers untilo August.

Or if someone knows differently, i would love to hear (she says selfishly_)

You can get a permanent residency if you have 5 consecutive years of stamps in your passport, but that is not a citizenship. as Marion said all applications for citizenship were suspended some time ago unless you are a famous sportstar!

YES, such as David Haye, who did not really ask for Citizenship and then sadly realised that TRNC was not the best base for him and left.
there are some perks with Permanent Residency but there is not the same sense of belonging. My own feleing is that if I am to be buried here, I don't want it to be 'in some foreign field for ever England'. I want to hit Cypriot soil as a Cypriot. Guess I shall have tolive a lot longer!!!!

I have 10 years of stamps and they WILL NOT give me permanent residency, WHY because of my age I'm under 60 in fact it's a massive struggle every year for them to give me temp residency and that's after 10 years ! why do you think people are leaving !

According to the local news forum, the disbanded UBP party in it's last week in power was giving citizenships, land, jobs and gun licences out like toffees, in order to ''buy votes'' in the upcoming elections.

I received citizenship 2 and a half years ago after being married to a Cypriot for 12 months.

At the time I was told that I could not vote until I had held my kimlik for 3 years. If this is the case then can anyone tell me, how the people who have recently received citizenship are allowed to vote in july?

According to local coffee shop gossip. ''The people who have recently been given citizenship etc will have it taken from them when the next government takes over.

You just couldn't make it up

One of the criteria is that you must not spend more than 45 days out of the country in a year & trips to the
South count!

So basically if you want residency/Citizenship you're a prisoner most of the year in the T.R.N.C if you're an ex-pat !!!!!!!!! You do this sentence for an unknown amount of time ? In the hope of getting residency/Citizenship and near the end of this unknown sentence the governments halfwits deliberately change the rules ! As they have done SEVERAL times to stop ex-pats getting residency/Citizenship complete waste of time playing by the T.R.N.C rules.

A couple of years back when I was having this discussion on a flight back from the UK, and the TC sitting next to me said "why on earth would you want to have citizenship of a country that's bankrupt, corrupt and earns what money it has from prositution and gambling" It was a bit of a conversation stopper!!

A peice of paper does not tell you where you feel you belong.
Just enjoy what the TRNC has to offer, and follow the rules - play the game
