Amongst other items in the newsletter, there are details about the June 2nd BCC Fete in the garden of the British Consulate ... one of the best bits of lawn in the whole of Istanbul

As with the Rocky Horror Picture Show, one wouldn't want to visit Istanbul just for the fete, but well worth attending if you are already planning to go there.

PS. For security reasons you need to contact the BCC at fetetickets@yahoo.com beforehand.

Doesn't cost much to fly from TRNC to Istanbul for a weekend trip. So is relevant to the forum. Thanks for the info iancrumpy.

Sorry about that guys I'm a little slow at times, so for instance the syrian ex pat lawn bowls society would be okay to post or the lebanon british rotary club. Yes i understand now, well that's great i guess the world is becoming a much smaller place now.

The World got a lot smaller a long time ago. Forum is open to anything that may be of interest to members. Some may find a particular post interesting, some may not - if not interested then fine, move on to next post.

It has to be said that visiting Istanbul has very little to do with the price of bacon ... in fact you'd be hard-pushed to find any there at all

StevenScott, I have no vested interests in any of these events, but having lived in Istanbul for over 15 years, I thought that members living here in Cyprus might like to incorporate a very pleasant day-out into their visit there ... that is, if they were ALREADY planning a visit.

And to follow up on what Soner wrote, many people, of all nationalities, living here in Northern Cyprus, often visit Istanbul, sometimes just for shopping ... taking advantage of the cheap flights ... which, if you book in advance, can be as cheap as 180TL for a return (Pegasus).

Thanks Crumpy for info re Istanbul newsletter. I went to Istanbul 3 years ago for my daughters wedding but due to commitments here I could only stay for 3 days. Not nearly enough time to enjoy all the wonderful things that Istanbul has to offer.

I will certainly go again, insallah, but with no definate date in mind it it useful to know, in advance, what is happening and should there be an event that takes my fancy, I could if circumstances allowed, plan my visit around it.

Welcome to the forum Stevenscott, while most of us who live here 'fulltime' love the TRNC, we do occasionaly like the odd excursion here and there. Cheap airfares and reasonably priced pansiyons in Istanbul mean we can broaden our horizons now and again and visit a beautiful historical city.
Remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

Good morning Blue Butterfly,
Yes, with so many events coming up (ie. the fete, the "Proms", the Jubilee Ball and Speech Bubbles' Rocky Horror Picture Show) I thought it best to post the whole newsletter. I have to say though that normally there are very few events to be informed about ... and consequently the monthly newsletter's main purpose seems to be for exchanging recipes. That said, I am more than willing to keep forwarding it to the forum.

Iancrumpy thank you for all the info you provide about what's on in Istanbul, it is very relevant to those of us who live here. It's like finding out what shows are on in London if we were still in the UK. I certainly find this information more important to us than what's happening in the UK. Turkey is a major factor in our lives here and is our nearest neighbour. It's also great when you post about what's happening in the South. Living in such a small insular place, beautiful as it is, we enjoy getting out and about for day trips and weekends away for a touch of culture and entertainment. Keep on posting.

Thank you Blue Butterfly, Zarafet and of course Soner. I will indeed continue to post details of events happening in Istanbul and "south-side".
