Re: Petrol Station Striks
Don't know but I do know how long the queues were. Total disorganised chaos at every forecourt. I would also like to know of expected duration as I am only out here for another 8 days and would like to think I can drive about without the worry of not having enough petrol to get back to the airport.

What strike? Have not been out today. Are all the petrol stations on strike or just a few?
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

Local radio just said they are closed for a week in protest at the increase in tax by the government. It will have a knock on effect IE no diesel for the power station therefore no electric. No fresh food deliveries no taxis or buses and on and on.

Re: Petrol Station Striks
I have heard varying reports aboyut how long, but the one thing I cannot understand is that they are going on strike because the petrol is going DOWN! Apparently some of the smaller companies feel they will lose out. I cannot apply much logic to this, but I do know that no one should bring a nation to its feet - literally. If I were President, I would send in the troops and also to the Belediye. I know it is awful when one isn't paid, or money is reduced, but at the same time, one should think of others, some of whom are worse off I am not complaining for myself. I will survive - i will just have to stay at home and get domestic, but the ramifications of lack of transport is huge. Let's hope it is just a matter of hours, as osme are syaing it might be. And before anyone jumps at me - yes, I know there are two sides to every story, but...... the above is just my opinion.

Re: Petrol Station Striks
Listened to BRT News earlier. The petrol stations have said that there are too many petrol stations for them to earn a living and that they had spoken to the Government about this, then the Government gave quite a few more licences out for new stations. The Government said these have now been put on hold and that they had arranged a meeting (think this week) to discuss it and in fact the Petrol Station Owners had sent them a letter of thanks - NOW THEY STRIKE - nothing changes. They did not say on the news how long this strike is going to last.

Re: Petrol Station Striks
Guess they don't say cos they don't know. Until a positive decision is made, there is not likely to be any time fixed. One of the problems here is possibly that petrol is a fixed priced cmmodity, so there is no way they ccan undercut, or charge more if in a far flung rural area (as in other countries) but one can't help but wonder why new petrol outlets are being opened if there is not enough money in it! On a personal, selfish, level, I am peeved! (understatement) And I am peeved for everyone, not just myself.
