BRS Rule Change

I was surprised to read that the BRS Committee voted that the "rule" should go, which would then enable BRS to recruit a more diverse and younger membership.

Please correct me if I am wrong in thinking that there is a constitution written in the Handbook, and as such a vote must be made by all BRS Members, and approved by the Government before this rule could be replaced.

sorry but to which rule are you referring? Have you discussed this with the BRS as I think only they would know the answer.
I have a copy of their constitution, but I do not know to what you are referring.

Please explain a lttle more and then someone might know the answer to the question, but maybe you should approach Ann Challis or someone on the committee..

i must say that i have always found it strange that the BRS do not show interest in the younger expat population there is never anything mentioned for those of us that are younger, only for the retired people are there any posts made, i'm sure if more was done for the younger ones they would be tempted to join up

Rule 5 - amendment to ASSOCIATE membership was voted for and passed at the 2013 AGM. Previous to then Associate Membership was available to spouses of UK citizens and to "Europeans". We have opened up Associate membership to anyone who is proposed by a member who has been a member for at least 2 years, and also their application has to go to Committee before being agreed. The committee has final say as to whether the applicant is given Associate membership or not.

As far as "younger" members are concerned, we have been trying to have events and get togethers that they may be more interested in, and so attend and get so get to know some members. As any society knows younger members are needed to grow with the society and become the committee members of the future - the growth of the BRS is in their hands. We welcome anyone, but younger people are needed to help the growth of the Society and understanding the needs of the current expat population.

Unfortunately the article in Cyprus Today gave a linkage to these two things that is not there!!

Sorry! Missed out a bit! We do not have a constitution as such, we have a set of Rules - which can be read on the web site. The BRS advocate is happy with the change to part of Rule 5., it is not a "new" rule, just a change of emphasis of a one already there.

Thank you mamachina, you do your best for us but there is always someone who thinks they know better and have to oppose what you are trying to do to improve our lot.
Or are smart a***es and think they know the rules!
