Hi folks
A wonderful part of my family are joining me in Alsancak for 10 days July and they are all gluten sensitive - so I am asking for help with sourcing gluten free produce and if possible dairy free.
2 adults and 2 children, can anyone give me information / advice please?
many thanks

I do not know of any "gluten free" products that are actively promoted in North Cyprus. But since the main sources of Gluten is from Wheat, Barley, Rye, and grains of similar family - I suggest they keep away from any product that has these as their ingredient. Rice, corn and oats are safe but products using these may well be cross contaminated with the grains mentioned above. I suggest a thorough reading of the "ingredients" listed on food labels...

many thanks for your advice - they(my family) are very well aware of all of that but the problem may be the language as many local labels are in Turkish. Across the world there are so many people affected by gluten so I was hoping for something more specific in outlets/markets. The Cypriot population are affected just the same.
cheers

There is a gluten-free section in most of the supermarkets.

Sheeps and goats cheese contains no lactose and there's plenty of that i the shops, as well as goat's milk ans soya milk.

Hope this is of some help fraid its just keep looking. Tesco does the best products for him but of course we dont have one here. Would be interested if you find anything

Lemar also sell a range of gluten free products. Unfortunately, you cannot assume that products such as potato crisps do not contain gluten you really need to check the labels which is difficult to do here. Watch out for rice in restaurants here as they often mix it with Orzo which is a type of pasta.

If you are cooking from scratch avoiding gluten is not a problem - my daughter in law needs a gluten free diet. Knorr and Kallo stock cubes are gluten free - don't know the availability. If you are making a sauce use cornflour to thicken. Plenty of recipes via google etc. just type in gluten free ***************** recipe.

Thanks folks for all of the udates and info.
My family are dealing with it all fine at home in UK its just I want to make sure I have it all to hand for their arrival later this month.
I was going to look for coconut oil as well but I see there is a thread with good info already on to view.
I just think it is marvellous that we have KIBCOM for such things.
Well done to Soner and his team!
with thanks

Cheers
