Ercan to be taken back into state ownership?

Serdar Denktaş, whose Democracy Party came 3rd in the recent elections, has said they will only form a coalition with a party that also has the intention of taking the airport back into state ownership.

Emrullah Turanlı, the owner of Taşyapı, the mainland company that put up 90% of the money in the sale, has said that the deal, agreed last September, was transparent and fair. Clearly though, Turanlı feels there is a distinct possibility that they could "lose" the airport, because he stated that Taşyapı would insist that the millions, they paid for the sale and investment there, be returned to them. In the above report, it also mentions compensation - I presume there was some clause which dealt with the matter of future administrations reversing the sale.

Turanlı also stated that this action would probably cause many to be wary of investing in the TR of NC in the future.

I could be wrong, but as far as I understand it, the deal agreed last September was that Taşyapı would have the airport for 25 years, paying the government 47.8% of their profits ... on top of the 100 million euros paid to state coffers in September 2012. There was also a commitment from Taşyapı to invest 350 million euros in modernising the airport.

Modernising the airport, they should use the money to modernise the bloody country, it is a least 100 years behind the times.

Perennial problem, striking the right balance. If everything worked and all things first world, watch the house values rise in proportion (and everything else).
The only respite, six months here for peace and tranquility and six months catching up with the world somewhere else, which, unfortunately the majority of us cannot afford to do. So you pays your money and takes your choice.

(1) whether our beloved TRNC needs to be "modernised"
and
(2) as to why kibkommers set up home here
to another thread.

As the originator of this thread I'd be more interested in your thoughts on whether a reverse of the sale will deter companies from investing here in the future.
Also, what do you guys feel about the 3rd placed DP being in a position, as is likely, to dictate the outcome of this matter?

Denktas, a well-known crusader for honesty in public life, was reported as saying that the airport contract should be cancelled because it was obtained by corruption. It would clearly be helpful to us all, to know what was the nature of the corruption and to be given the names of the people who were involved. They might even end up running the airport again, if it is re-nationalised!

From what I've read and heard nothing good has come out of the privatisation, only increased tariffs and staff cuts so re nationalise it but be sensible with the staffing levels.

It's quite clear that there has been corruption in the the TR of NC over the years, and moreover I certainly wasn't a fan of the Küçük administration, but ever since the 70s, opposition parties have been crying "Corruption" ... normally with no real proof of any wrongdoing.
As for Serdar Denktaş being a "crusader for honesty", I have heard far less complimentary descriptions of him from my TC friends.
Personally I am more inclined to believe Emrullah Turanlı, who claims the deal was "transparent and fair".

You have stated, Turanli "claims" the transaction was transparent and fair. Clearly a subjective view. Whichever way you look at it one thing is certain about honest and legitimate investors, they do not like uncertainty. Give them good news or bad, it can be quantified and reacted to but give them uncertainty and their gone. TRNC is both uncertain and unpredictable.
