steve Sydenham's project as per Cyprus Star
for those of you who have not seen Cyprus Star, please read this and DO suport Stev e
Hope for Hi and Yen.
The sudden closure of Bamboo beach had a devastating effect on many, but none more so than Hi and Yen from Vietnam who had come to North Cyprus to earn money to send home for their son, and to make a better life for themselves. Sadly, their dreams were shattered as they lost their work, had no work permit and were owed money. The only real chance is to return to Vietnam and salvage their lives. To find emplooynment here again seems impossible so hi has managed to rake enough to go back to try to find employment sothey can start to rebuild their live sin Vietnam but there is not enough in the kitty for Yen. So in steps Steve Sydenham, who cannot bear the thought of their continued suffering and the deprivation of not being with their son. In order for them not to have to live with the bitter taste of the collapse o their dreams at Bamboo beach, he is trying to give them some sweetness by raising money to help Yen to go back. He says “I therefore am organising a fun evening on Monday the 19th August at the Habana Pool Bar at Santoria Village from 6pm till late. The sole aim of this evening is to attempt to raise enough money to get Yen home safe and sound to her little boy. As a Father of five I cannot even begin to imagine being parted from any of my children when they were at that tender age and it brings a tear to my eye when I think of the diabolical situation this couple have been left to face. . If we are fortunate enough to raise more than the fare required, the surplus funds will be given to Yen to help give them a bit of breathing space once she is home and also to buy something nice from all of us for her little lad.”
So he asks for help. “I am asking all of you to help. I would not only like you to come and join us for the evening, but to also bring with you a couple of items of your choosing to go into a raffle, a tombola stall and if there is enough left over we will also run a bring and buy stall. Anything to raise a bit of cash. It doesn't matter what you bring. It doesn't have to be expensive but if you are like me you will be dead chuffed to win a bottle of plonk or anything else, whatever it may be, for a good cause.
Rebecca & Gary (they used to do the teas & coffees at Bamboo Beach) have offered to do a chilli (and if you had one at Bamboo you will know how good they are) for 15tl per person and have kindly offered to donate 20% of the takings for the evening to the fund. In addition they are kicking off the prize fund with a donation of a crate of wine.”(order via rebecca.hughes55@yahoo.co.uk
PLEASE BE THERE.

More info on Steve's fund raiser evening
Just had an update with Steve that I share below - to avoid confusion and to encourage help.:-
Just to let you know the fund raiser has to date received a good response. In case you read the Cyprus Today article I confirm it is on MONDAY 19th August not the 16th as stated in the article.
If anyone cannot make the evening but still wanted to donate a prize or two for the raffle please feel free to drop them here at my place. Tel 0533 875 0829. Or if you live nearer to Girne then contact Sue Drumm on 0533 8400012. Or email Sue at: sue_drumm@yahoo.co.uk
Alternatively of course you can drop them off at my book stall at Lemar Market on Friday evening 6-10pm or Monday daytime 10-3pm or at Lemar Catalkoy Market on Saturday 10-3pm
We will be running a raffle, a Tombola stall and a bring and buy stall. If you have any small items that are surplus to requirements please bring them along and we will sell them to help swell the fund.

Re: steve Sydenham's project as per Cyprus Star
wonderful soner. this couple had a really rotten deal and at least they will be able to leave Cyprus knowing that it really is the island of love, and not the Den of Duplicity.
Anyone else out there hwo cannot come who can at least donate something by way of a prize. I think that Steve is a real 'gent' for thinking of doing this. steve, of course, is also a 'victim' of the closure of Bamboo Beach, but realises that he has more options that this other couple.
Actually I have a feeling that this event is going to be a bit crowded!!!!!

Re: More info on Steve's fund raiser evening
Just didn't want this to flal off the page until the event is over.
sounds like a great way to spend an evening, and I know that Steve already has some money in the kitty but needs support to ensure that the aim of funding a flight and a bitmore is achieved.
See you all there???

Hi
The Little Society of Kyrenia would be pleased to donate 300TL to this very worthy cause and perhaps someone could telephone me on 0533 8655837 to organise how to get the money to you.
Kind regards

Steve reports the kitty now stands at 700t,l and the event is not yet held. Great news. Of course if nayone cannot go and would still like to help, Steve would be happy to receive further donations. Every lira matters to restore the balance in the lives of this family, and each lira represents a loving heart.

It's nearly here! Hope you can come and support to show that we all care! If you can't come, then think of giving something for the event, or tell your friends as they might like to come.
