Under floor heating.

Any comments points cost if you have had under floor heating installed ?
Can you recommend companies or electrician ?

We have under floor heating and find it economical as water temperature runs at only 40 degrees, takes along time to heat up but it takes a long time to cool down. I took us a long time to work out the on /off times on the timer.

which rooms do you have the under floor heating ?( we are looing just to have under floor heating in the bathrooms )

We have a wet system covering the whole house which is detached four beds. Every room is individually thermostated

Thanks for reply. Is your 4 bed property in Cyprus ? the reason I ask is this is where I need feedback on any installers you could recommend who installed the under floor heating together with costs etc ?

Kiplet,if you are thinking of having a wet system here in TRNC,it would need to be done on new build.Unless you have enough room to put 7.5cm of insulation,followed by reinforcing mesh & 7.5cm of sharp sand screed with fibres.This will make it efficient.(UK spec 2.5 years ago).Would need same on all floors.Each room has a manifold which is sealed & pressurized during installation.If pressure drops it tells if pipework has been damaged.UK way,no idea about here.Not seen it in any villas/apts I have seen.

I was thinking more along the lines of a mat dry coil system. Would you advise this to be ok ?
Better still any recommendation on any installers of under floor heating ?

Hi Kiplet,the only mat we used was undertile,& only ever used in a couple bathrooms.Seemed to please the customers.Not sure how economic it is.You would have to do some research as to the availability & installers here in TRNC.Sorry I cant be more specific.

Thanks for reply. I may have to bring over the under floor heating kit from the Uk and then find a qualified person to install it for me.
I know Cyprus has a short winter but our bathrooms in Cyprus can be quite chilly.

If any one knows a qualified person who installs underfloor heating please get in touch with me.

Some friends have this in their 3 bed place in Karsiyaka.

It was costing about £17 a day in gas two winters ago - they now have a log burner and don't often use the underfloor heating

Thanks for reply. I understand that underfloor heating is quite expensive to run.
We intend to install just in Bathrooms. Allowing for the warming up we will only need it on for 4 hrs per day in he winter for approx 6 weeks, so prepared for the expense.

Any one out there who could install ?

Have you thought of putting in bathroom wall heaters instead? We installed these a couple of years ago, and what a difference they have made, along with some non slip washable rugs, and wooden toilet seats. They are quite cost effective, and haven't had any nasty shocks with the electric bills.

We bought and installed a bathroom blow heater, which does the trick if you remember to switch it on 10 mins before you want to use the room.
The first one that we bought was from Elektrokur on the Girne roundabout, made in UK but not brilliant. I then brought one over from the UK, which is much more efficient, a "Glen". You can also get special low running cost bathroom heaters that you leave on all the time if you like a warm loo, had one in UK and was good at keeping the chill off the room.

Hi, Have recently had underfloor heating installed on a new build throughout the whole house. Dont know how effecient it is as not due to move in until next week and probably still wont know until the winter when we will need to use it. Mr Pipe based in Karakum next to Turkish Bank supplied and fitted it. If you go along to see them Im sure they will be only too happy to discuss any questions you may have. Hope this helps.

If you're only going to need heat for bathrooms, why not use portable gas heaters? As long as you make sure the room is well ventilated, they work a treat, heat the room fast, are cheap to use and easy to move around if you feel you need heat in another area of the house.

In our last property we installed the warm air wall blow heaters which were excellent and worked well in that property.
However now we are starting from scratch with the bathrooms in a new property that is situated in a cooler area.
This is why we really wanted under floor heating. Thanks for the tip though much appreciated.

Full U/F heating is wonderful, we had in in our very large house and guest cottages in the UK and used a massive wood/straw burner. Very thick floors kept a very even temperature but as a retro-fit is not really for Cyprus. If you want localise bathroom floor heating then the small electric mats for installing under tiles is just great, we did this to a bathroom in Cyprus with a timer and the amount of electricty used was actuallty very little. A big advantage in a bathroom is that with ventilation you can help keep damp at bay.
