Electricity

Hi
Can someone help please. Our villa in n Cyprus has after a few years had it's rate chargeable for electric changed. Apparently it was on a rate that should have been amended/sorted by the builder many years ago. I have been told, by someone who is looking after the property, that I have to now pay £1,800 for the changing over by the electric company. Is this correct? I am really the dark on this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sounds as if you were on Builders Rates for too long. We had the same, and had to pay an inspection charge for it to be changed to domestic. But nothing like the money you are stating. Best to consult with the electricity company in Kyrenia and see what they say. Or ask Marian Stokes of HBPG - she may know. sounds a lot of money, but prices do constantly go up here. Maybe there is need for another meter or some such. sorry i can't help more, but you need to talk to someone of authority - the Ellectric company, or the person from whom you bought the property maybe.

Does sound that you were on builders rates for electricity. Costs seem very high but you do have to pay a deposit to the electricity company for the meter in your own name ( not the amount you have been advised!). Keep deposit receipt as you get this back iif you sold property.

Strongly suggest speaking to electric company to confirm the cost or of course Marion at Home Buyers Pressure Group as these costs seem excessive.

If a unit is around 1 lira you will be on temporary or builder's electric. It will be relatively straight forward to change over if the following are in place.
Plans registered at the land office
Electric plans
Municipality checked and signed off
kib tek check
If not expect a quote of 4 to 5k but you will spend around 10k. The good thing you get receipts off everyone. Admittedly it may be very different for new builds my custome's house was converted from animal storage to dwelling in 1992 but nobody submitted the plans to the land registry office therefore we had to start off from scratch. 18 months of expensive hell.

I recently got connected to Kibtek after a few years of builders electric and had to pay two seperate costs. The first was my contracted payment to the builder for my proportion of the cost of the electricity project. This was in the region of what you have quoted. Kibtek then had to come round and inspect the property before being connected to the mains. Before being connected I had to pay 595TL which included a deposit for the meter and then they came round 3 days later to finish the the job with a new meter
