KKTCELL/Electronic Communications Law
Today I received the following SMS from KKTCELL:-
"Dear subscriber, due to the Electronic Communications Law, October mobile wireless usage fee is deducted at 14.62 credits"
Does anybody know what this is about please?

Re: KKTCELL/Electronic Communications Law
I got this today too. I don't use wireless on my mobile and have tried to make sure that it is not enabled. I have noticed that I have had credit deducted before for no apparent reason so I will be visiting turkcell to find out what it is all about.

Re: KKTCELL/Electronic Communications Law
I did too.
When I pay for more credit, it is 50tl = 769.23 kontor
deduction is 14.62 kontor
I do use wireless, but does this wireless refer to internet or does it mean wireless phone instead of landline??

Re: KKTCELL/Electronic Communications Law
I just bought the credits, now is this taken everytime I do this? They do give me various credits for use with turkcell customers, lasting until 5.11.13 and 27.11.13. We also have a Telsim phone. I haven't checked that. I've got to charge it first, the battery is flat

Re: KKTCELL/Electronic Communications Law
Apparently it is for all mobile phone users. I presume it is monthly as they deducted it from my pre paid kontors at the end of last month.

Re: KKTCELL/Electronic Communications Law
I use my phone to send/receive texts and calls. I have never sent an attachment or connected with the internet - I wouldn't even know if my phone can do that. So if I have got the charge it must apply to everyone - unless they have made some mistake.
The charge was made the day before I topped up so it is not associated with credit purchases. Also it mentions October so it would seem to be monthly. '14.62 credits' I assume means '14.62 kontors' which is approximately eqivalent to 1 tl - not a lot but I just prefer to understand such things.
If it is general then I think the biggest impact will be on those infrequent visitors who have a local SIM card - before they leave they must presumably ensure there is enough credit to cover the period they will be away.
I find it very interesting (and also typical of TRNC) that there seems to be quite a few affected but nobody knows the story behind it.

Re: KKTCELL/Electronic Communications Law
I am same as JBA. Telephone is for occasional calls and text msgs, nothing else.
We probably received a msg some time from KKTC in Turkish explaining what is going to happen yet msg telling me I have been debited is in English. Cynic, yes!!!!
It will be interesting when other half receives monthly contract bill to see what extra has been charged. Maybe those above on contract can feed back when they receive their accounts in next few days.

Re: KKTCELL/Electronic Communications Law
It can't be because of 3G. My husbands telsim phone is an old Nokia. It does not do internet, emails. and like JBA, my husband is not interested. He was charged the same as me and mine is Turkcell and an android phone. I got a turkish and an english message, but the Turkish said the same.

Re: KKTCELL/Electronic Communications Law
It has nothing to do with the internet. It is a tax on all mobile phone users, Telsim and Turkcell.
If you use a mobile phone here, no matter how old or basic, you have to pay this tax.
What next I wonder, breathing tax?
