Advertising via private messages

I received a private message today advertising solar panels. I notice it was sent to 'Kibkon Group' which I presume was all of us.

A quick perusal of the rules doesn't seem to show that this breaks any, but personally I think it should be a no-no. I don't mind ads on the main board but I object to being sent private messages for advertising.

What do others think?

I'm glad that JBA has started this thread because I was about to do the same. Please Mods make this a no-no. If it isn't against the rules then any chance you could amend the rules? If it isn't stopped we will all be swamped with the things. I don't believe that's what pm's are for.

Totally agree. This is a forum for information exchange, not to be spammed by sellers. I was very annoyed to get the message so I hope the sender reads this thread and desists in future. Other sellers too.

To be fair to the guy, he did apologise yesterday. I received also an email but just emailed back telling him I wasn't interested. The thread he started where he apologised seems to be no longer on site, cannot find it, someone else might do.

Apology or not, it is still not on. Had enough on Cyprus44. Members who use the board to circulate SPAM to other members, in my opinion, should be banned.

Jealous where in gods name are you coming from . Private messages are NOT for advertising .its bad enough on some boards with people advertising things they cannot supply.

I have now found that thread and acknowledge what you say.

However:-

I have no interest in solar energy so had not personally read that thread, nor I suspect had many others that received the PM. I did peruse all main board threads before starting a new one but it is not on the main board.

Even if I had found it I would probably have started a new thread (although worded to refer to the old) because I think this is a topic to be addressed by everyone and therefore a main board issue.

I am sure Soner will deal with this, butas a Mod who has just seen it , I must say I am appalled that this should happen at all. Private messages are just that. Maybe to follow up on something one does not want all the public to see, etc etc. But to advertise is the worse kind of spamming.

I agree there will have to be a rule, and I am sure that Soner will come up with something with a statemen tthat anyone who does such a practice will be banned from KibKom.

Really sorry this happened. It IS WRONG and it is a misuse of the forum and all that it stands for.

Please be patient with Soner as I know he is quite snowed under at the moment, but I am sure he will deal with it at the first available moment.

(Incidentally, does anyone know if this company actuall pays for advertising on KibKom? I guess Soner will know, but a business should follow business ethics.)

If any members receive spam, then please inform us and the spammer will be banned. I was notified by Journey1 yesterday and did see the apology by the new member, so hope this was just a one off.
