passport renewl and border checkppoints

does anyone know or has crossed north and south border while there passport has been sent back for renewl?

mY HUSBAND TRIED IT THE OTHER YEAR. Sadly he did not have an important piece of paper from the British High Commission and there was no way we were allowed over. This was rather unfortunate as we were going to a Christmas Day luncheon gathering and we had the cream to go with the pudding. 'Ring the Embassy' said the man on the border.l 'Hmm - I don't think so , it is Christmas Day'. But no way could we go. So I expect the same applies. Unless you have a piece of paper that is an official piece that tells of your passport being awaited, then no chance.

But do check with someone like the British Residents Society, or even the British High Commission (or whatever High Commission applies0.

Maybe someone can be more positive!
