Hi
Anyone have a landline telephone installed and use it to get internet access?
If so what are the speeds and the reliability of the service.

Many thanks

We have a land line and to be honest, the quality of the line is extremely poor, very crackly.

As land line phones are rare over here, Its a fair assumption that the supply network cable is extremely old, hasn't been updated for years (they don't exactly market land lines very much over here basically because the network is so limited) and that it would struggle to act as an internet super highway if it can't support a phone call properly.

On the advice of several TRNC long term inmates on our arrival here, we passed on the idea of using it for broadband and never got to find out if it was even available.

I had landline with Internet and was absolutely useless in my case. Got rid of landline and now with MM, know they are having problems at the moment, but hopefully these will be sorted in Karsiyaka ver soon.

I have land line and have had no trouble at all with internet access over it. I have only bought a slow speed but have downloaded films and can stream TV on it with occasional hic=ups cost 90 tl for the year! Bargain since back and forth to UK so don't want to spend too much.

Multimax has stopped providing ADSL internet over phonelines beginning of this year for a couple of reasons.

No matter where you get your Internet from, it goes through the same infrastructure, which Providers do not have access to, when you call your provider with problems, almost nothing they can see, do or say.

Telekom is only reachable 8-3 M-F except bank holidays, although we can reach certain people via mobile phones in case of general emergency, there is nobody as ADSL support to speak of, nobody to look into individual problems if any arise.

The only time I would suggest ADSL is in case you are looking for something dirt cheap, like some providers offers 1Mbits service for 100TL / year (+ you have to pay 180TL per year ADSL charge to your phone line).

The attitude is: It can be cheap, if its works, use it. If you having problems, good luck getting it sorted.

ADSL works very well through the land line here. The technical details are beyond me; sufficient to report that up to five computers are frequently logged on together with no real problems - just an odd 'outage' which always seems to happen when the weather is a bit off. Rain and thunder now - all OK. Our provider is sunnycyprus.net - excellent service.
