Poison in Karsiyaka

Anybody who lives in Karsiyaka and has a dog beware of poison between the Goat Pens below Selvi Village and the Medittera site. Our big black beautiful dog, Arthur, was poisoned there this afternoon and is still at the vets with a less than 50/50 chance of survival. We gave him atropine but the vet thinks the poison must be very strong, so beware.
He was on his lead but had managed to slip his collar and within minutes was in trouble. I don't know why these people have to do this and at the minute my blood is absolutely boiling. He is my best friend and everybody around our end of Karsiyaka know us. I will be absolutely gutted in the morning if I am told he hasn't made it through the night and, to be serious, must then look at whether I want to live here any more. I feel absolutely sick and my good lady wife is devastated that this could have happened to the dog that she absolutely adores.
I can't prove anything but it is quite obvious the owner of the goats is the one to blame and if I had a gun, I have to be honest, I would shoot the b,stard

I am SOOOOO sorry. How absolutely terrible, and even more terrible is that there is never any evidence to convict this person. It seems to have been said for years that this is the man who does it, but never, never, any evidence. I hope youhave reported this to both KAR and the police. Not everyone seems to know that if it can be proved that anyone is guilty of harming an animal they face a fine and/or imprisonment. It seems appalling that dog afterdog is made to suffer this way.

Mind you I know a stray in this village was deliberately poisoned and I was told that a person saw who did it and that it was a council worker. But no one is going to 'shop' a relative!

Is there NO ONE who can be a witness to who did it. It seems incredible that this keep s happening. But DO tell the police. You never know, just maybe under questioning the man might make a mistake.

my poor dog gets virtually no exercise because I am terrified that she could be a victim. And to my mind rather a live fat dog than a slim dead one.

We are so sorry, upset and angry for you and your beloved dog, thinking of you all. Still cannot get our heads round why or how some people can be so cruel and that they honestly think that there is no wrong in doing it!!! Hope we will be reading good news from you soon.

I got the call I was dreading at 6:45 this morning and, fortunately, the news was good. Arthur had made it through the night, somehow, but was back on a drip for another 4 hours. I must really thank Sibel from Petcross who looked after him through the night and tended to his every need. I cant speak highly enough of the care and attention she has shown. We brought him home this afternoon and although not out of the woods yet he is so much better than yesterday. He has to go back tomorrow for blood tests to ensure there is no lasting damage to the Liver and Kidneys so we are still on a nerve edge.

We thank you all for your kind words and will keep you posted.

So glad to hear Arthur has pulled through his terrible ordeal.

Fingers crossed for his blood test tomorrow and that Arthur makes a complete recovery.
How people can live with themselves knowing that innocent animals suffer is beyond me.

Something in the 5 1/2 years of living here I find hard to understand and deal with.

I know how you feel, my dog Tag was bitten by a snake in May and was with Firdez for 12 days on a drip. At her home every night. The dedication of those vets is amazing. I have every thing crossed for you and I am sure the blood test will be ok. Keep posting

Unfortunately Arthur had a relapse through the night and has been back on a drip at the vets since early this morning. The problems he is having now are due to the damage the poison has done to his nervous system so he is unable to stand, eat or drink. One glimmer of hope is that the blood tests came back all clear for his liver and kidneys. He has a 50/50 chance at the minute but he is in very good hands. Sibel has done wonders through the day and Firdez is taking him to her own home tonight to care for him. Again I must thank all the staff at Petcross for the care and attention, and not a little love, they have shown to Arthur.

He is a little better and still hanging on in there. He got himself up and we went outside to pee (him not me). Still very weak and shaky on his legs, so that exhausted him but another small step in the right direction. Another day on and a little bit stronger but still a big fight and he is just the boy to do it. If I knew how to put a photo on I would show you why we are fighting so hard to keep him going, he is a wonderful dog with a fantastic character.

ps Thanks for asking

This boy is putting up one hell of a fight, so much so that he is with us at home tonight. He has to go back to the vets in the morning to go back on a drip but they thought it would be good for him to be with us in the meantime. He is now walking, albeit a bit shakily, and is able to go to the toilet without the aid of a catheta. Still some way to go but a big step in the right direction today.
We have had so many good wishes it would be impossible to thank everyone individually but we are very grateful for all the concern being shown, many thanks.

By the way, I must once again thank the staff at Petcross who have put so much effort in to making him well again, effort which has been way above the call of duty. We love every one of them for saving our Arthur.

Do hope Arthur will soon be back with you full-time and restored to good health. Like you, we received so many messages of concern when little Dolly was attacked, and it helped us greatly that so many people cared. Good luck and best wishes to you all.

More pictures of Arthur and a bit of a storyin this week's KibKom Times. As they say 'Read all about it!'

Actually I am findig it difficult to keep typing with my fingers crossed for Arthur, so maybe I should cross toes andet on with my work.

Still lighting candles for his full recovery soon.

Give him a hug form me and form my Dudu who has been fortunate and never had the misfortune to be anywhere near poison, although other dogs in my village have!

Hi there
We have had him home the last 2 nights but he has to go back to the vets in the mornings to go back on a drip. He is much better and stronger but there is still some way to go. It is just lovely to see the tail wagging again and the fact that he can get up and walk, even if still quite shakily. He is taking very small amounts of chicken and pasta and is managing to drink now, which is why they let us bring him home at night. His head is still very heavy for his neck as a result of the nerve damage but that is expected to return to normal in time.
I do appreciate you asking and I would put an update each day but I don't want to bore people who might not be particularly interested.
As I have said he is a fighter and as he gets stronger he can fight it even more.
Yes that was a good piece in Kibkom Times and it wouldn't surprise you to know that we have got 100's of other photo's that could just as easily have been used.

If people don't want to read your updates they won't , but I for one check it everyday with my fingers crossed for you! I'm glad he is fighting this and you have him home, your love for him will comfort him whilst Petcross will treat him back to health, I have so much faith in Petcross I wouldn't take my dogs anywhere else they have done wonders with our furry babies when we needed them.

Good luck Arthur xxxxxx

Got him home again tonight and he is a little bit better again. Back again to the vets in the morning for his vitamin drips etc, etc. Every day counts and he is getting stronger on each new one. This time last week he was as good as dead.

Many thanks to everybody who has sent there good wishes, it is greatly appreciated.

He is back to the vet for the day to get the necessary vitamin drips etc, etc. very sprightly this morning when out for a short walk and while we were waiting for Firdez, who was dealing with another patient, he got up on the bench with me. He couldn't have done that the other day so, although I know he shouldn't do it, it was another positive sign. He has a healthy appetite and is thoroughly disgusted when he only gets a little bit but that is doctors orders and we are doing exactly what we are told. Sitting up most of the way to the vets is also a good sign so now it is really waiting for him to have full control of his head. If you have seen the pics of him you will know he has got quite a big head and a long neck so takes a bit of effort but, like everything else, is happening slowly but surely.

Just back from his daily visit to the Vets and he is looking better again. He is finished with his Atropin and is being given reduced levels of Cortizone, which is for his nervous system. Another big step in the right direction and, hopefully, not long before he is fully fit again. Desperate for food, which is a good sign, but not happy with the measures. Doctors orders, but try telling him that.

Back from the vets already so able to spend a nice day with him.for a change. He now only needs 1 drip which contains vitamins and Cortizone and this only takes 45 minutes. He has improved even since last nights update, the head is higher and he is being his normal naughty boy self. The storm last night didn't bother him at all as he got up and snuggled in with me on the bed settee. I have been sleeping beside him because of our concerns for him but that might not be necessary shortly.
Sibel, his personal vet, thinks we may be all finished with the need for the Cortizone by Friday and that would be fantastic, fingers crossed.

No cuddles last night, he was so settled on his bed he didn't move all night and, yes! I did hear the storm.

Have been to the vets already for his daily drip and I am pleased to say he is just getting better and stronger every day. Regular short walks, so as not to tire him out, and regular small amounts of food are having the desired effects now that the drugs have done there bit. He is full of energy and the head, which was a problem, is now at full height. He stands as proud as punch now it is a sight we didn't really expect to see again after last weekend.

I would like to thank everyone again for the good wishes and whatever prayers were being said and however many fingers were crossed, it has worked. Once again I really must praise the vets at Petcross for their utter dedication and it is no small way that this recovery is down to them, many thanks to them all.

Nice and easy at the vets this morning, in and out within half an hour after his vitamin and Cortizone fix. He is just about 100% now and we feel so good about that. He is up to all his old tricks and looks as good as he ever did.
Hopefully just a couple of more visits to the vets and then he will have been weened off his meds. Never new I would end up with a junky for a dog.

Regards

Cliff
