Just to let you know that there is a scam going on. It looks like it's Barclays bank but it has nothing to do with Barclays. Today I had an e-mail from so called bank saying my transaction for £4601.00 had been transfered, to who, or where I don't know. I phoned Barclays and they knew nothing about it but advised me to contact my own bank (as I don't even bank with them) to make sure that my account was secure. It was but the girl on the other end of the phone said I was the second person to phone and report it. She also said DO NOT open any attachments from any bank that may contact you, as this will enable them to get your bank details. Hope this helps.

Thanks. Any other KibKomers had this? I sometimes get scams form Banks with whom I do not bank, and I delete. Sometimes one can report them, but it rarely does any good.

When receiving emails from your bank they will address you by your name...ie Dear Mr Smith.
If there are any links, just hover over it but do not click, this will show a pop-up of the actual link (bottom left of screen) which sometimes gives the scam away as it is different to what is written on the page.

Never open attachments unless you are sure from whom the email is coming from.

Same has been happening to me from PAYPAL and as Soner advises they may look authentic but are addressed generically when you look closer. I always delete after alerting the organisation of the current spam being used in their name.
It just looks so official so be aware. You will not be the first or last to be caught out by them!

If you do not know the sender, delete.

I agree Paddywack but. as in my case, on first reading it can really look like you do know the sender. I have a Paypal account and the first time it happened I nearly did follow the instructions given! So my message still is the same - be aware!

Banks and financial services will not contact you by email or phone only by letter.

Yes familiar with that but they do look so authentic and the Paypal one did nearly throw me the first time it arrived to my inbox.

That may be true now, but a few years ago my Ex was contacted a number of times by Nat West by email. It was about her password, and on investigation I found they were genuine. They received a few choice words from me!
