Re: The Green Line - Holiday in a Warzone - Cyprus 1974
Soner, this is the first time I have picked up a book and read it through in a day, in fact it must be 10 years since I last picked up a book
Thoroughly enjoyed the way in which you have written this, it's frightening to think back in my younger days and watching at home in Wales on a TV the horrific things going on in Cyprus without any understanding or feeling. After seven years of coming to the Kyrenia regiion I am getting an understanding especially as I am speaking with people who were actively involved or affected
I admire your honesty and delivery of your story, thank you
Ian

Hi, a big request. If anyone had purchased the Green Line book on Amazon and have read it, can you please return to the Amazon website and leave your feedback. It all helps in helping with sales. I am marketing the book by myself so any help is promoting is much appreciated.

sorry I can't help on that one, Soner. By the way I was in Bestseller today and she is taking orders for those of you who live here, and she also said she would be stocking the Turkish version. As I say, I reckon that would make a super present for any Turkish speaking friend, and I am sure that Margot would be happy to take your orders for that too.

Ordered and delivered in good time. Saved the book for our flight out to Cyprus at the beginning of May. Finished reading it just as we were landing....must have been good! To be honest I wanted the book to last a little longer, maybe the follow up will be out soon!!??
Book now left in our little apartment in N Cyprus so I can pick it up again at anytime when we are out there....the sunshine, heat and just being there brings it to life.
Great read and fantastic account of dramatic times as seen thro a childs eyes.
Thanks

Although entertaining, the earlier events set in England (that LooseBoots is refering to) are of no real consequence to the "holiday" - it's not as if in those chapters we read of events that caused Soner's Mother to make the decisions she did. An American friend in the university described those chapters as rather amateurish. That was harsh, but I do feel those chapters' inclusion was primarily to bulk out the book.

Iancrumpy, guess there will always be a first and possibly many more to follow, although up until now all comments had been positive. Your university friend may be absolutely right in saying that the earlier chapters were amateurish, as I am not a writer as stated many a time and this being my first book. However, your statement about me adding those chapters primarily to bulk the book is incorrect. I felt that these chapters were necesary to build up the characters and compare the dramatic change in environment that we had experienced as children.
Glad you found it somewhat entertaining anyway.

Dear Soner,
In your original posting you wrote "What did you think about it (the book)?"
So, I replied with a few honest thoughts (on the earlier chapters) and quoted a somewhat crass comment, made by a friend of mine.
"Up until now all comments had been positive"- That is hardly surprising Soner ... seeing as we are chatting with the author ... on his forum.
I still think the earlier chapters' inclusion was wrong. However, on the whole, I really enjoyed reading the book.

Iancrumpy, I was referring not only to feedback on this forum but what has been posted on other forums, on Amazon and comments made to others that have been passed down on to me. However, I am sure that there will be more that may think the same. I had an Italian friend say that maybe I should not have add the bits about the war crimes, also, another friend that loved the start of the book and thought it was absolutely necesary as it was a slow build up to the main story and an introductions to the characters. I also had someone tell me of a part they thought was extremely funny, of which I did not intend for it or think myself was at all funny - she was refering to the description used of the old lady sitting and spitting grape pips on to the road - this person found it so funny because she could relate to it.
So, I guess depending on age, nationality etc.. the story will be perceived in different ways. When I say your comment was wrong, what I meant was that the begining chapters were not added to fatten the book, it was intentional as part of the whole story. However, if you think earlier inclusions were wrong because in your opinion thought that it didn't work with the rest of the story, then that is fine, and I appreciate your feedback respect your honest opinion.

Hi Keith, welcome to the forum. I believe Kobo reads the Apple e-Pub format. Have been trying for 3 months flat trying to contact apple support to sort out registration and uploading of ibook, but their customer support service has been etremely bad, can not believe that such a big company can have such an awful service. Have emailed them no less than 10 times had one unhelpful response and no further replies to any of my emails. I am still pursuing this problem and really hope to get it sorted one day soon.
