For anyone who has not renewed residency under the over 60 age concession and are going to renew driving licence, you may want to read this link on cyprusscene -

I haven't renewed my residency since I turned 60 last year. Have been across to the South many times (not always within the 90 days) and also been to UK & back. I went to renew my driving license last month with old licence, mukter's letter, photos & passport, paid money and got a pink slip, told to collect new licence in one month - I'm going for it on Monday will let you all know if I have any problems.

No need tolook anywhere else, this is the advice given by ~Trevor Hughes in his Monthly very helpful newsletter. That is where we have all got the info. He makes sense. But again it is choices. But if it helps, here is the info:

Driving licence Renewal

Yet again, for those of you who are over the age of 60 years and elected not renew their Temporary Residency, confusion rears its ugly head again, this time it’s surrounding the T R N C driving licence renewal. Several police officers, including high ranking officials are declaring that if you are over 60 years old you do not need to hold a Temporary Residence Permit to renew your T R N C driving licence. Let’s be clear on the matter, the police are custodians and enforcers of the Law, they do not write the Law. Any amendments to existing Laws require the Government to change, introduce new Laws, and or amend the Law by statute. The police cannot enforce the Law on how they feel fit.

To ensure that you are not caught out by police interpretation, wise people continue renewing their Temporary Residence Permit and thus leaving nothing to chance.

Update: Just popped into the tax office in Girne with my pink slip - collected my new 3 year driving license - no problems whatsoever!

But when the 'right sort of person' hits YOU will this then be valid. Sorry been here too long to trust anything when the cards are against you. As my Father said when we came to stay remember its a lovely country but when it goes wrong you will be amazed how much the authorities know about you, don't try and be clever as one day it will bite you in the arse.

Wise words, and merely a reiteration of what Trevor Hughes said but with different terminology!
