13roman58. I wish you were correct. There was no frozen pastry of any kind in the Alsancak Lemar yesterday - unless they've stuck it in some obscure part of the chiller/freezer cabinet.

I've definitely bought it from Ileli, Alsancak usually in the first freezer that has puddings and frozen fruit in on one of the lower shelves. If you can't find it do ask at the till, they are very helpful.

We can all make our own but as Alan Titchmarsh used to say, "Life's too short to stuff a tomato!"
Even all the trendy TV chefs are extolling the virtues of ready made frozen puff pastry. Everything in moderation transfats included lol!

I had no problem using shop-bought in England, but it tastes awful here! They could at least use butter, but they use a horribly cheap margarine.

I agree, takes more like candle wax, than margarine. Give me butter every time! Sorry cholesterol!

Milfoy (I think that is the name) do a lovely one, it comes in flat sheets (ideal for sausage rolls) and has a butter symbol on front, I have bought it from all Supermarkets here, and never had a problem, and yes first freezer at Ileli is where I usually find it, much simpler then making my own, and quicker, hope this helps.

Cheats puff pastry, really easy. Sift the plain flour, add good pinch of salt. Use 2 ozs less of shortening to the volume of flour e.g. If using 8 ozs flour use 6 ozs shortening, 10 ozs flour use 8 ozs shortening. I use 6 ozs butter and 2 ozs lard for 10 ozs flour. Keep the shortening in the freezer and grate into the flour. Add cold water , just enough to bind the mixture, roll it out quickly , handling it as little as possible.....great results every time

Thanks for all the replies very helpful except I went to buy the pastry and now they have sold out of sausage meat. Think I may just go to the market on Saturday and buy some.

Happy xmas to all

They had frozen sausage meat in Lemar at Karakum yesterday.

Why don't you just pull the skins off some sausages? instant sausage meat then.
