Replying to Private Messages

I, could someone give me their help on this please. As I so rarely get any, am not sure of the procedure. Have replied to a private message, but according to the side bit, it says they are still sitting in my outbox. I've retried, it comes up with message sent, but again still sitting in my outbox. When I go to Messages Sent, they are not their. Is this normal, does it take a while for them to go and for them to show up as sent?

They will move from the outbox to the sent folder as soon as the recipient opens the message.

Thanks for the help. I also rang cyprusishome as I suddenly remembered that he knows everything, which of course he did. Thanks David.
