RESIDENCY RENEWAL

My Residency is due for renewal. Is there anyone on the forum who would be kind enough and has the time to explain what I need to do and in what order. Paperwork, costs, stamps etc.

Thanks
Scarlett.

If you go on the British Residents website it explains everything. Different if you are 60 or over.

Like Scarlett our residency is due for renewal. Though both well over 60 we're not prepared to take the risk of not renewing.
At your suggestion went onto the BRS web site, though there is lots of info I couldn't find the actual cost.
Last year it was around 230tl. Don't know if the price has risen.
Anyone out there who has recently renewed and can confirm the cost.?

I was told last week that it was 246tl now, but as we have yet to go this year I can't be sure, so perhaps some one who has renewed since Christmas will come on and confirm or not.

Thankyou EddieH
It's always a great help to have the correct money to hand over in these government offices.

Residency cost always goes up in January, I believe that the 246tl would be about right for normal annual inflator. I would therefore take that amount Bonnie. Also, if you are under 60 ask at police station when you hand in papers they will tell you cost and stamp value to take.

Thanks cyprushome I'll go prepared. Way past 60 I'm afraid but too nervous to go down the government concession route. They've made things a great deal easier for us oldies so grateful for small mercies and would rather be safe than sorry

I agree Bonnie, we renew ours. There are some interesting comments on BRS web site on the issue of non renewal and of obtaining new driving licence. The most interesting being that there may be currently unknown legal issues if involved in an accident and not being legally registered as a temp. resident. Take a look - http://www.brstrnc.com/index.php/compon ... ncy-update

Yes I agree, we were on the "not going to renew our residency because we know so many, many people who have not bothered for two years or more now, and a couple who haven't had a residency stamp or TRNC driving licence for 10 years plus" but perhaps its because we're of a nervous disposition, we're going to renew ours. We may be twits and bowing to TRNC Government pressure, who knows!!

I have friends who have lived here more than 20 years and never have done their residency they regularly travel back to their own country and elsewhere and have never had a problem. They are only just 60 now by the way.

Deniz, returning to their own country is fine, its the green line crossings which may cause the problem. If you leave the Island via a recognised port even if its Larnaca, Paphos or Limossol driving on a licence from your own country is fine and I assume this is why they give a 90 day visa. I have never heard of someone coming into Ercan or the green line if they have been absent for some time not getting 90 days

They do cross to the south quite a bit so presumably they get a 90 day visa they always fly from Ercan though.

Crossed to the South yesterday and asked TC immigration if, as a 64 year old, I needed to renew my current Temporary Residency when it expires.
Was told emphatically "No!".

On return from Greek side asked the same question.
Again, told "No!". The girl even leafed thru my passport and pointed to my current residency stamp. "When this expires you don't need to renew it".

sophie .. Before you do it ask at immigration .. We went to ask at immigration last week to what was required, we were told that as we are both over 60 residency is not required .. What about driving licence, come & get 6 month residency when driving licence is due to be renewed in 2 years was the reply ..
Our neighbours told us this last month when they went to ask .. They have crossed the border several times since. no problems .. Will test the water next month when they fly back to the UK for 2 weeks, from Larnaca
