On this mornings Channel 4 Moneybox (25th January) a piece about HSBC asking people why they are withdrawing large amounts of cash...and the reply in the end.

When I lived in the uk my bank always asked what I was using my money for I used to get so mad. I suppose its to prevent money laundering or so I was told, that was 10 yrs ago so nothings changed.

Up until 2 weeks ago when I switched from HSBC to Nationwide having been with HSBC for 21 years I was never asked and that included NC as well with Limmasol Turk Bank, whom they deal with, transferring large amounts. The rule has always been there but guess it depended upon staff, as the article said, its about interpretation of the guidance rules. I would have loved to have been given the opportunity to tell them to get stuffed if they had asked me what I was spending my money on:)

Deniz1, at the end of the article, the representative of the Bank said he would send out to all staff how to interpret the guidance.

Well as I said that was when I was in the uk I dont have any money now lol and I live here now.

How right you are Deniz1. when I lived in the UK I had quite a few bob, but now I live in the TRNC I've been bled dry. (although I'm not quite sure that's what you implied)!!

I got asked a few times why i was with drawing the money what i was using it for and told i should learn to spend my money wisely as the man said in one month i had withdrew alot and im with barclays
