Lapta Couple Robbed by Brits - Cyprus Today Story
"Just read the story in cyprus today about the British couple stripping and selling the household goods at an older couples villa they were looking after in lapta whilst they were away having medical treatment and the 3 dogs they were sitting for all gone. They even sold the couples car the ooops. The woman is in court on bail the man done a runner to wales allegedly.
Surely they should go to jail and then deported instead of just being deported, that's getting off to light."
Does anyone know anymore about this case?

As always there are two sides to every story so don't judge too quickly.

Normally I agree but the fact the woman has been charged shows some substance. If you happen to know of another side I would like to hear it.elizabeth wrote:As always there are two sides to every story so don't judge too quickly.
Some are wise and some otherwise.....

It was on the front cover of last Saturday's Cyprus Today and carried on inside. Chopping up furniture and fencing to use as firewood, I don't think there is much chance of two sides to this story.

I could not believe the comments of Zebedee. There is no issue with quoting from the press at any time and as for it being advertising........!!!!
I think we are all thinking of the family concerned in this crime and wish them well.

HOUSE SITTERS "STIPPED HOME"
A British couple who were forced to go back to the UK to be treated for serious conditions have had their home stripped of irreplaceable family trinkets and items worth £30,000, a court has been told.
Grandparents Terry and Sandra Miller, aged 66 and 54, say they allowed a couple to stay rent-free in their Lapta home to look after their three dogs. Neighbours say the much-loved family pets Barney, Roxy and Pickle have not been seen for months.
The couple sold their house in Essex six years ago and shipped a lifetime of possessions to their dream home in Ahmet Ozkan Sokak but were force to go back in November.
Mr Miller, a former electrical consultant to the House of Commons and the Bank of England, had diabetic complications with a broken leg which have required five operations and Mrs Miller, formerly of the Inland Revenue, suffered kidney failure and needed dialysis.
However, in their absence, following a tip-off from neighbours, police found a number of items from the house were being sold on, including a fridge freezer, a cooker, sofas, large-screen television and hi-fi equipment. Even the Mercedes the couple own was found at a car dealership.
In addition to the large items, toys were taken that had once belonged to the couple's four children and were played with by grandchildren when they visited.
Also gone were a collection of model cars built up by Mr Miller over many years and elephant figurines given to Mrs Miller by family members to mark special occasions.
Power tools, pool equipment, speakers and even a coat rack were taken, while plant pots had been damaged, the fence and furniture broken up for firewood, mattresses were covered in stains, dirty saucepans of food had been slung in the garden and a gas bottle left floating in the almost empty, green swimming pool.
Speaking from the UK, Mrs Miller told Cyprus Today "The dogs were like family. We would never have let anyone in our home other than to have looked after the dogs. They were like our children in North Cyprus.
"It is heartbreaking not knowing what has happened to them. They are not street dogs - they wouldn't have survived outside.
"It has broken my heart to see all of our treasured items gone and know people have gone through everything. I could have cried when I saw photographs of how the place had been left. I feel silly for trusting people"
Police have arrested a Welsh woman called Jannine Groves, 24, on theft charges and have tried to track down her husband, Thomas Cable, but he has left the TRNC and is understood to be in Cardiff.
Groves appeared at Girne District Court on Wednesday and again at the Assizes Court yesterday and has been released pending further investigations. Her travel documents were confiscated.
