I got to supreme to and i know what you mean food here is so expensive but every were else is more expensive i think. Sometimes the best thing to do is just go around and buy the things you need that are on deals some times at certain markets. The army market is the cheapest if you know a cypriot that can take you

If you can go over the mountain try Erulku on the airport road very big and a lot cheaper.

In the past couple of weeks prices every where have rocketed in line with the TL loosing so much value.

We do not stick to one shop, we use the one where the best price is for particular items.
henry-vox if you shop at Supreme I assume you live east of Girne in which case I agree with deniz1, go to Erulku. We always go there if going to Ercan or anything else in that direction. Invariably return home with a car boot full and an empty wallet.

Like CIH we tend to shop around. I've noticed that Erdener, Lemar - Catalkoy and Supreme seem to be having a bit of a price war which is great for the customer. Very often one of them reduces an item and the other 2 follow suit and undercut. Erulku is usually good but the last time we went didn't notice such a big difference in price from our usual markets, certainly not enough to make a special trip. Though Hubby's favourite wine is a bit cheaper there...

The key is to buy in season, plan your meals, look for what is cheap at the veg markets and think outside the box a bit. I made a Moroccan type chickpea dish the other day with dried chickpeas, tomatoes and courgettes with harrissa, two of us had 2 meals on it and it cost a couple of quid! Often tomatoes are 50 Kr a kilo, I get 5 kgs cut them into quarters bake them in the oven low for a couple of hours with sliced onion, a bulb of garlic some herbs and a splash of olive oil, pass through a seive or belnder then seive and you have a delicious soup or sauce base.

It does not have top be expensive, it can be fun and challenging getting creative.....and healthy
Some are wise and some otherwise.....

Awe use Supreme, i don't know what your tastes in cuisine are , but if you cook like the locals a few days a week the pennies stretch a little further. I like English foods imported at, understandably high prices, but also the local dishes are tasty. I save that way, when i need to pull in the purse strings a bit !.

Thanks for your replys. I really need to start planning my meals a little better. But with a fussy partner and a fussy 16 month old it's been hard. I love cooking, but as I am due to give birth any time now ( been having contractions all evening). I have been lazy. Could anyone recommend a few good recipes for me to try.

many thanks Sarah
